This is filled with errors and a lot of really flawed analogies. One of the worst pieces of nuclear writing I have ever seen, by @BretStephensNYT nytimes.com/2019/08/09/opi…

If you would like to know more about why, feel free to DM me for some facts and analysis.
@BretStephensNYT More nukes are not needed. Our allies lack of confidence has to do with behavior of President. Joint Chiefs believe we have more weapons than we need, even now. And Iran did not violate JCPOA and Russia complying with New START.
@BretStephensNYT We also brought Russia back into compliance with ABM Treaty in 1985. You are entitled to your own opinions, but these facts are just wrong. And Versailles? Really?
@BretStephensNYT We have many times the weapons we need to deter nuclear attack. Russia is pursuing systems they believe they need to counter US missile defense and advanced conventional. What is needed is strategic engagement and for US and Allies to work together on stability.
@BretStephensNYT NATO is not going to rip itself apart replaying dual track decision on 1979. Russia would love that. Instead, we need a real strategy to address Russian hybrid warfare and a President actually committed to alliances. More nukes won’t help.
@BretStephensNYT And running this piece, even if you agree with it, on 74th anniversary of nuclear bomb being dropped on Nagasaki, is incredibly insensitive.
@BretStephensNYT I am sure Mr. Stephens wants, like I do, to prevent nuclear use and protect our allies. But just because it sort of worked in the past is not an excuse to repeat. The Cold War led to 70,000 nukes and a daily risk of armageddon. No thanks.
