I did a 405 pound upright row tonight during my workout

There was a big Samoan in the gym who was maxing on the bench Press and asked me to spot him

It was a great trap and posterior chain work out
Real talk, the guy was not weak, but he sure as hell could not have pushed that weight by himself

it was the epitome of a bro lift

I told him he need to back down and get in a lot of rep work in the 315-365 range
You do not get stronger by maxing out every week

testing your max strength levels is exactly that, it’s a test, it’s not a work out

-The Samoan guy had 500 pound benchpress potential, but I guarantee he will never hit that if he is constantly testing his strength
This applies to every single one of your big lifts

when you can turn a five rep max into a 10 rep max, then you can move up in weight

otherwise you get in the reps week in and week out

-I guarantee most of you your strength has been stalled for years
And it will never go up unless you treat strength as a skill that you practice and approach muscle building as a process
