Why have they chopped down mature shade trees for this so-called beautification project? It looks like Mr. T went on another tree-demolition rampage. Replacing shade trees with ornamentals is only part of this destruction project.
Seems they’ve also forgotten #ADA accessibility
laws. These bump out gathering spaces they’re planning benefits outdoor dining options for restaurants, but makes sidewalk navigation for pedestrians and mobility-impaired impossible.

I hate shopping in Evanston because I always have to hike to find parking.
Not so bad on sunny days but in pouring rain or snow I’ll go shop where I can park within a few spaces of the shop. Taking away easy parking from local shops and we may as well use Amazon. What’s their motivation, anyway? Is this a case of follow the money?

Our library is doing
the same thing. Getting rid of books, cutting down mature trees, build a “gathering space patio” right by a busy intersection/ street. And wait for it...this new construction, which includes the front entrance, is #inaccessible. Imagine what that will be like in Chicago-area
winters, when #wheelchair users get off an accessible bus AT FRONT DOOR OF LIBRARY, and are forced to travel all the way around the building to a back entrance. Odd, I always thought libraries were for reading, but ours is getting rid of so many books, it seems bent on forcing
patrons to use interlibrary loan like Amazon.
Winnetka is celebrating its 150th year. With these and other changes, its charming business district may well be unrecognizable by the 155th.
