I'm leaning on the distinction btw. beliefs/principles and culture.
Evangelicals are, fundamentally, cultural Christians. Christian principles are secondary.
Christianity is more about justifying and reinforcing that way of life than it is a guide for living a principled, moral life.
Interestingly, kind of like how trump is.
It's just that those values and principles are secondary to the protection & affirmation of their culture.
To them, it's not hypocritical, it's about priorities. It's life or death. Their Christian way of life trumps Christian values.
