"words mean things" is genuinely the dumbest argument i've ever heard. it assumes language precedes reality instead of describing it. "words mean things" is another way of saying "i have a mind incapable of learning."
I know im coming at this from a particularly subjectivist angle -- it seems patently obvious to me that the entire human experience is something mediated through brains and concepts rather than purely experienced, so objectivity is impossible -- but what a crock of shit.
Semantic shift something we've all experienced in our own lifetimes, the way "message" and "chat" have acquired new meanings through social media. "Gay" used to mean happy; that usage is now only a fossil.
"Fascism" used to refer specifically to Mussolini's ideology before being broadly applied to far-right authoritarianism. "Awful" and "awesome" used to be synonyms, both referencing *awe*.
"Silly" used to mean "blessed." Even "girl" used to mean "young child," irrespective of gender.

Words have meaning? Please.

Words just have agreed-upon usage.

we can use the words "men" and "women" to refer to things other than what assigned gender at birth, genital configuration, or however else you want to define it. We can broaden the definition to be more inclusive of others who find it a better description.
Thats what I mean, in part, when I say I am a woman: that "woman" best describes how I interact with the world, how the world interacts with me, and how i relate to myself.
I don't really know what else to say. This is a language shift we are *currently undergoing*. You can fight it all you want, but it's not going away.
Maleness and femaleness are not metaphysical realities, and the words we use to describe those phenomena aren't floating in a world of platonic ghosts.
