I'd like to be discuss former Caretaker Law Minister to the Federal govt and renowned lawyer Mr. Ahmer Bilal Sufi (or ABS), whose dubious AND SINISTER connections to the military establishment & state are something that people continue to ignore & as such fly underneath the radar
Everyone will already be aware that he has been notified as a member on the all important committee tasked to work out a strategy on Kashmir. ABS is often portrayed as this unerring & faultless legal expert who is always ready to take up the causes that really matter such as Reko
Diq or Kashmir (among others); both being the reason why I've wanted to discuss him today. For starters he once made a royal mess by giving negligent advice to NAB on a broadsheet case where the organisation was essentially involved in a payment dispute with an external
investigative agency. Driven by personal agenda he advised the govt to go full throttle on arbitration instead of settlement & was compensated millions for wilfully stepping on the mine disaster & then on top of that managed through the same connections to get himself hired on
Reko Diq arbitration despite having little to no experience before arbital forums much less the ICJ. Made a cool billion on that while screwing Pakistan over for $6 billion US. His modus operandi consists of shopping around cases to lawyers in Washington DC & London, with whom he
shares the spoils. Only in Pakistan does one get to become an expert doing the bare minimum. A short web search can determine the true stature & profile of the giants of international law versus the pygmies we're blessed with.

It is such heavyweight academics and practitioners who breath, teach research & continually publish on international law subjects & are consequently engaged to advise sovereign govts on the intricacies & nuanced of public & private international law especially matters involving
territorial and boundary disputes. And then behold & enter our Pygmalion who are in love with their own creations-like Don Quixote tilting at the windmills-a law firm in Islamabad & Lahore that provides services from real estate to family law to criminal law to constitutional law
& lest I forget International law & arbitration. ABS's son Bakhtawar Bilawal Soofi who is equally inexperienced has now started offering pearls in his daily newspaper columns on everything under the sun. One wonders if Mr. Soofi has been published in Oxford Or Cambridge
International Law Journals or on any of the internationally acclaimed arbitration journals on matters that he advises the GoP on? One of his all time favorites is a relative of US Ambassador Maliha Lodhi's; a Mehnaz Malik- who happens to very close to Cherie Blair, who took the
lead on Reko Diq, despite such matters having never being her field of expertise. Both became quite chummy during Lodhi's tenure as HC to the UK. Mehnaz used to be a small time solicitor prior to hitting it big with the Reko Diq arbitration which she used to catapult her career
further to 20 Essex & beyond. Bear in mind Mehnaz was only called to the bar in the UK in 2012 during the case proceedings.Funny little tidbit, Mehnaz wrote an awful children's book which was specially launched by Maliha Lodhi at the Pakistan HC in the UK & none other than Cherie
Blair was chief guest. Used the event to plug her charity. Like you can't event make this stuff up. And now both Mehnaz & ABS will be running point on the issue of Article 370 in Kashmir. ABS-bear in mind-has already received 20 crores in advance & just recently bought a 14 crore
Rs home around Sarwar Colony in the Lahore Cantonment. ABS is also making use of his former Associate & Sartaj Aziz's nephew & wannabe legal eagle lobbyist Jamal Aziz, (son of the useless Brig. Kamal Aziz) whose statements in the press have been nothing short of wishful thinking
& airheaded nonsense. Jamal was plugged into the Foreign Office as a follicle implant even though he'd just recently wrapped up the Bar & had no prior relevant experience whatsoever. Save few exceptions, Indian courts rarely interfere with parliamentary initiatives. One cant help
but wonder what goes through the head of the people making decisions in Pakistan? My guess? Money. Pakistan may as well bleed at the arbitral forums so long as these pygmies pretend to be giants. *End*
