For those of you who, like me, don't normally get the Sunday Times, these are the key points of Operation Yellowhammer. This is is what the Govt thinks is likely, not the worst case. The Govt is choosing to do this to the British people:
petrol imports will be set at 0% (a voluntary Govt decision) which will "inadvertently" (how can it be inadvertent when it's deliberate?) cause 2 oil refineries to close w 2k job losses, widespread strikes & disruptions to fuel availability
Not only that, huge sums are being spent across Whitehall on #operationyellowhammer - another tweet reports Foreign Office officials saying it's 20% of their budget
And for icing on the cake, try reading @castlvillageman on the real life effects of No Deal for people living on the Irish border. It's a chilling thread.
My mum came home today after 3 weeks in Addenbrooke's. She's 86. She broke her femur in 3 places & had an emergency hip replacement. The govt promised she'd be top priority for a vaccine. She wasn't. They weren't giving vaccines to the over 80's in Addenbrooke's.
The govt still says she's top priority for a vaccine now she's at home. She isn't. They're not giving vaccines to housebound people where she lives.
She was pretty well safe before she had her accident. She isn't any more. She's had constant contact with people since she's been in hospital, & now she'll have carers coming in 3 times a day.
Today I went to Morrisons, Lidl, & Tescos. I escaped from the first 2 when I found the trolley handle cleaning had gone by the wayside, there were no floor markings in the shop & no social distancing.
So I tried Tescos.
Same story with the trolleys, some markings on the floor but the 2m tapes had been removed. People were walking up the one way aisles the wrong way & they just looked at me blankly & carried on if I asked them to follow the signs.
There was no social distancing in Tesco either.
A Tesco manager walked past me so I stopped him & asked why they'd removed the floor markings. Govt says it's OK so they've gone, he said. I said I thought it was disastrous for customers & staff. He made a rude face at me (this was a manager, mind) and turned on his heel.
Today several people in Halesworth saw you in our toy shop. There is something you can urgently do for our community about #coronavirus.
This weekend, this area filled up with second home owners coming to Southwold and Walberswick and tourists staying in hotels, b&bs, holiday cottages, AirBnB.
This is DANGEROUS.
The same is happening up and down the country today in tourist areas. The tourist industry, which has helped spread COVID-19 around the world at breakneck speed, is now helping it rocket to the remotest corners of the UK faster than a cruise missile.
1/ Former Equalities & Human Rights Commission Chair Trevor Phillips has demolished the Govt's attempts to divert responsibility for Windrush.
