For 40+ years neoliberalism has treated Economics as a high priesthood of solemn esoteric knowledge beyond the grasp of ordinary people. This stance is manipulative & wrong 1/6 To put it bluntly, the discipline of economics has yet to get over its childish passion for mathematics and for purely theoretical and often highly ideological speculation, at the expense of historical research and collaboration with the other social sciences. Economists are all too often preoccupied with petty mathematical problems of interest only to themselves. Regardless of whether the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic was a naturally occurring transmission from animal host to human (zoonosis) or a lab leak from a facility conducting gain of function research, it is a ticking time bomb that affects all of us
Popular sentiment (“it’s just a cold”) is driven by both human nature & propaganda. @JohnSnowProject recently published information about the big picture, explaining in detail that a COVID infection has both an acute (immediate) phase & a chronic phase johnsnowproject.org/insights/a-new…
When some people catch the virus (the acute phase) they may not have any symptoms at all, or they may have the “just a cold” experience. Others, especially those who are immunocompromised or who have other health conditions, may have more serious outcomes.
