Some "post-workout" reading coming to me from @jckichen. I fully expect to find every case study involves a subject that couldn't shoot pistol, but I'm open minded. Thanks for the recommendation Jason. In seriousness, seeing a situation from multiple views is key. #DailyBookDrop
"Counterintelligence can be an excruciatingly frustrating profession. You lose when you win." This is commonly echoed by CI professionals, for good reasons, but I find it as a traditional "it depends." You certainly can have counterintelligence wins without sustaining a loss.
"We have not yet begun to consider Red China espionage as a serious menace to our security in the U.S., though in the years to come it may well become a formidable instrument for spying and subversion." Allen Dulles, 1965. I and almost all of my followers weren't even born. 1965.
"China is without question the number one counterintelligence threat facing the United States." Where's my Russian droolers at?
People can say whatever they want about the President, and his comment about being the chosen one, but at minimum, his administration has taken the leashes off to get after Chinese pillaging. Don't @ me.
"There is no longer a 2PLA responsible for human intelligence, a 3PLA responsible for cyber operations and signals intelligence, or a 4PLA responsible for electronic warfare. These functions remain but have rolled into the new structure." Unclassified sourcing is always helpful.
"The MSS and PLA make regular use of diplomatic, commerical, journalistic, and STUDENT COVERS for their operations in the United States." SAY IT WITH YOUR CHEST.
"They take a vacuum cleaner approach and scoop up literally any kind of data they can get their hands on." The thousands of gains of sand analysis predates this book. Have they refined a req driven collection model? Have they invested in analytical capability and capacity?
"The FBI announced in 2015 that it had seen a 53 percent increase in economic espionage against US companies over the previous year, most of it from China." #china #numbers
"The MSS and PLA primarily play the ethnic card in their recruitment operations. They target large numbers of ethnic Chinese--the so-called overseas Chinese--who live in the United States and virtually every other country in the world." CI isn't known for being sugar coated.
Alright, I'm done dropping the hotness here. Definitely buy the book for way more content than I shared here. Support expert authors who go through great stress to provide valuable insight into their minds and experience.
