on this day five years ago I moved to Cambridge, Massachusetts. I have lived here now longer than anywhere else since I left for college at 18, and now @CambMA really feels like my home. I love this city so much.
@CambMA so, in tribute, I am going to spend today tweeting out some of my favorite things about & places in #Cambridge. this feels especially important to do as so much has changed since I moved here in 2014.
@CambMA it is painful to see so many out-of-state big money corporate developers coming into Cambridge & Boston and tearing down historic buildings, kicking out small, local businesses, and putting up the same fugly Lego-looking condos.
@CambMA Harvard Square is full of vacant storefronts now and so many legendary Cambridge businesses have had to move from there or close entirely (Algiers, The Curious George Store, Crema Cafe, Tealuxe, even the AMC Loews movie theatre). thecrimson.com/article/2019/1…
@CambMA it is getting more and more expensive to live in Cambridge, and I don't know how anyone without a big tech company salary will be able to afford to live here eventually. I'd love to buy a house in Cambridge but lol at those Zillow listings.

I spent most of my life living around Cambridge––growing up in Lexington, going to college in Wellesley, teaching in Dorchester––but it was always a touchstone spot for me. it was always a place where I felt comfortable & at home.
