1. I didn't want to do this. I wanted to be patient and see if people got here on their own - but I can't take it anymore. I'm black and Jewish, and I'm sitting here nearly in tears - this is why. [a thread]

#antisemitism #Labour #Conservatives #ToriesOut
2. I've had fellow Jews tell me that I'm an idiot for supporting Labour. I've been told that Johnson's a better choice or "just as bad" & I've been laughed at. I've had to watch the Chief Rabbi celebrate Johnson's election and then have him ignore my letter asking for solidarity.
3. When I support Labour's positive and tangible attempts to reform, I've been called "deluded" or stupid. When I say how vital the party are for black Jews like me, I've been told the party can die for all people care. I felt invisible, erased, unheard, and worthless.
4. I'm sick of being scared to say how I feel about the only party in British politics that has consistently fought for black people. I'm sick of attempts to make me feel guilty for wanting a Labour government to stop the Tories - who have been lethal to so many people of colour.
5. Who are led by a man that called black people "picanninies" with "watermelon smiles". Who published a eugenics piece arguing black people have lower IQs. A government who deported black citizens (no different to my grandparents who came in the Windrush) to their *deaths*.
6. Now the government are attacking democracy itself and I'm still seeing arguments that Labour and Corbyn are equally as bad as Johnson and the Tories. This is deluded, and a bare-faced lie. I cannot fathom how the media and far-right demagogues have managed to achieve this.
7. And I'm sick with cognitive dissonance suggesting Tories care about Jews, despite Tories treating every other minority like dirt. Don't be fooled: the Tories just haven't had an opportunity to throw Jews under the bus yet, and use antisemitism issues in Labour as a distraction
8. There are warning signs: like Johnson & Mogg meeting Steve Bannon (self-professed platform of the alt-right). Or the government backing Viktor Orban. Far right-nationalism keeps rising in the UK, stoked by actions like this or xenophobic/racist rhetoric or policy from the govt
9. A hostile environment to minorities in the UK is a hostile environment for Jews, too - that's why racially motivated hate crimes have increased nearly 100% since 2011/12, and religiously motivated hate crimes over 300%. Four far-right attacks have been foiled this year alone.
10. Several plots to bomb synagogues, one to start a "race war", were foiled this year, and a swastika hung from house in Wales. Yet, as those who fuel white nationalism & racism lead our country, Labour are solely to blame for rising antisemitism? Labour are the biggest threat?
11. Labour needs to be better, and it will be - but only if we nurture reform and hold them to account, instead of dogmatic and illogical statements like Corbyn and Johnson are equal threats, or Labour are irredeemable. I'll probably be attacked for this, as I have been before.
12. I've even had Jewish friends (who completely agree with me) warn me not to write articles on this because of the abuse I'll get - since my views don't match the dogmatic narrative of an evil, racist, irredeemable Labour party. That's how toxic it's all become.
13. So attack me or laugh at me - if it makes you feel better. I've heard it all before. And I'm past caring. Just don't expect me to respond.

This abuse is far less painful than how invisible and worthless I've been made to feel by my own community, one which I love deeply.
14. Those in my community that read this please hear me. Please hear other Jews of colour, of which there are many. I know Labour antisemitism is scary, but I beg you, make sure you to step out the echo chamber for a second & see the whole picture accurately before its too late.
15. I am proud to be Jewish, and I am proud to be black.

I will fight antisemitism and racism until my dying breath - anyone that knows me will know this to be true.

And it’s because of this that I won’t allow me, and people like me, to be erased any longer.
