Welfare woes: A #HologramThread

Some of the #YangGang know I have been dealing with a daughter who had a severe mental breakdown earlier this year. She has been diagnosed with a pretty terrible disorder, and she needs to be on disability. We've been trying for that since April.
There's a massive Catch 22 in how things work. You see, she quit her job, so she's not eligible for unemployment. In fact, her employer changed her status to "disciplinary termination," so they wouldn't even hire her back. She had just gotten her Medical Assitant (MA) cert, but
the hospital now considers her a risk in that position. This is honestly a fair assessment, but changing her status to terminated screwed her out of a variety of possible benefits.

The first problem we ran into was simply CARE. A mental disorder requires a certain type of
medicine. It turns out that the places that CAN care for her and are highly recommended for her issue ... none of them take Medicaid.

The second problem (as @canadayvibes can attest) is rent. How do you pay your bills if you can't work? The wait for housing vouchers/Section 8
is months in her state. The MEDIAN wait is 2 years; she is granted advantage by nature of her disability, but it is now September and ... nothing.

The third problem is SSI or SSDI themselves. Our first applications went into the Aether before getting a denial. It turns out that
an entire cottage industry of lawyers exists who claim to be able to accelerate your claims for disability. Imagine how screwed up that is: You can't work, you have some problem with basic functions, but you are expected to lawyer up to prove all this to the Benevolent State.
Oh, and you can't work to pay the lawyer because that notion invalidates the idea that you are disabled in the first place.

So what do you do?

Well, in Jess' case, you become homeless! You camp in the woods. In my case (daughter's case), her family dumps baskets of money down
the drain trying to keep her FROM becoming homeless until the various "benefits" actually start benefitting her.

In the meantime, she's found another job, her mental state has deteriorated more, she's lost custody and visitation of her kids, and I'm pretty much the only family
willing to help, anymore. (Her disorder makes her very, very tough on people. It has left some emotional scars on her siblings, too, and they refuse to deal with her, now.)

I'd say that she's getting $0 in assistance, but she actually is getting SNAP/EBT.
Why share this?

Why bare this to the world?

Because I get SO FREAKING ANGRY with all these concern trolls and poor-person-cosplayers who have the audacity to tell me Yang's UBI would hurt "the people who need it most."

It is such UTTER BULLSHIT.

$1,000/month would change my
daughter's life.

It would put a secure floor beneath her.

Would that be "enough?" NO! It would not! NO ONE is saying it would be enough!

Might she get more out of adding up other programs? Yes, hopefully, someday, they figure out she needs the help.

The problem is: How long?
What does she do BETWEEN the job and disability stipend she desperately needs?

The tab so far this year on my family has been close to $20,000.

So tell me: When does welfare apply to my daughter? Should I have not spent the $20k? Let her live on the street? Without her meds?
If I seem to forget my #HumanityFirst from time to time on these threads with people who are not in need and will never BE in this kind of need, I'm sorry. I really am. I try to reign in my temper.

But "the system" makes me angry -- legitimately, incredibly, impossibly angry.
And that people DEFEND that system is out of the Bizzaro World to me. Someone today refused to believe that targeted welfare hurts people. Does he think that 100% of people in the "target" get the benefit?

Bonus points for anyone that can tell me how FJG benefits my daughter.
So that's why #ISupportYang.

I have 10 kids.

I won't be here forever.

I want them to have a secure future ... in good times and in bad.
