@jmspool @AlexPrism @Ganticdotco @joenatoli @daveixd @PavelASamsonov @cap Let me say that stronger, actually.

I think a lot of distrust of UX designers comes of encounters with UXDs who are not just incompetent, they are anti-competent.
@jmspool @AlexPrism @Ganticdotco @joenatoli @daveixd @PavelASamsonov @cap But I gotta tell ya, I have worked with a lot of programmers who are anti-competent. And I still treat new programmers who I am introduced to with the assumption that they know their own domain.

I even do that for MARKETING PEOPLE.
@jmspool @AlexPrism @Ganticdotco @joenatoli @daveixd @PavelASamsonov @cap In part because that is how one

(wait for it)

(wait for it)

(wait for it)

builds trust with colleagues.
@jmspool @AlexPrism @Ganticdotco @joenatoli @daveixd @PavelASamsonov @cap I believe that this presumption of colleagues’ expertise and ownership of their own domain — even in the face of reasons to doubt it — is a necessary professional ethic for a healthy organization.

Without it the process devolves into infighting and second-guessing.
@jmspool @AlexPrism @Ganticdotco @joenatoli @daveixd @PavelASamsonov @cap And okay, maybe you don’t believe in this ethic.

But I hope that this exchange clarifies why people who do believe in it find your rhetoric troubling.
