Great metaphor illustrating a property of a good mental model: clarity around _exactly_ how different parts of the model interact. Don’t be content with mere correlations — look for gears!

Legibility is a surprisingly interesting and important concept. E.g., insiders often deliberately pursue *illegibility* to make it harder for outsiders to control them. I think about this all the time.
