The traditional college path is broken for many students. It was for me, and I'm so grateful I chose a different route.

That's true for many, in a way their parents might not understand. It was different 20 years ago.

I come from a family of educators.

3 of my 4 grandparents are teachers. My wife (a first-generation college grad herself) is a teacher.

But circumstances have changed dramatically, and forcing *everyone* into the same path has led much of a generation to financial ruin.
For my parents the notion that you go to college and a job appears on the other side was actually true. As was the idea that you could pay for college comfortably with a part-time job.

Neither are true for most of my generation, and we need to understand that divide.
