It’s all great & good to express yourself about your struggle with mental health, depression, suicide, etc. It’s extremely healthy to open up honestly about your issues, but acknowledgement is only the first step.
You must then move to stop identifying yourself By those issues.
You focus on your positive qualities.
You focus on what you Can do rather than on everything you can’t.
You center yourself IN yourself.
You stop making excuses Every time you think about it.
You stop beating yourself up for not thinking about it because you Stop comparing
yourself to who you’ve been or could be.
You focus on now, and what you have, and what you can do with it.
You take each day for what it’s worth, each day.
You learn to let go.
You learn to open up and accept good into your life.
You learn to love and appreciate yourself and to
offer Yourself Your very best, first and foremost, before you offer anyone Else your best and before you Accept anyone else’s best, you must first fulfill yourself.
It’s how you ensure balance, and balance is key.
Mental health, like physical health, requires time, patience,
energy, and purpose. It requires a nutritious diet & sufficient excercise. But Unlike physical health, that isn’t something Other People are going to be able to see. They’ll experience the positive effects of your mental fitness, but they will Never See the work done.
So I Get the desire to express more than anything else, our struggle with mental health, because it validates that we’re working on it at all. But so, SO many people are just at the gym to take selfies. They post on social media about their mental health issues for clout, for
recognition, and for relatability, and by doing so, they exploit the Real work so many others are actually doing at this gym. #SuicidePrevention isn’t about simply being Aware; it’s about Taking Action to STOP the suffering.
Please, PLEASE don’t forget how essential the Rest of
mental health maintenance is, focusing solely on the Awareness that it exists. Stop wasting your energy fighting to take that humble step of acknowledging that we’re ALL human and struggling to be so. Put that energy to good use Preventing the cycle from continuing.
@threadreaderapp unroll, please ❤️
The struggle with mental health shouldn’t come from struggling with accepting it’s validity, but in fighting to gain control and balance over it. Acceptance is one of the hardest steps. As they say, ‘the first cut is the deepest’, because prior to the initial experience, you have
No means of comparison. After the first cut, everything else is just layered ontop of that initial experience. That’s why being honest about these things is So essential. You can’t skip the first step and expect to be mentally well enough to manage the ninth one.. you Must be
patient with yourself, and willing to go the extra mile to understand the Core of your issues and the capacity for your creativity and sustainability to overcome those issues.
Telling everyone else about the issues comes Later. That’s why posting about it on social media never
helps, and often seems to exasperate the insecurities. This is a common struggle. Ignoring it in yourself devalues the honesty others apply to it, on the grandest scale. #SuicidePrevention isn’t just for those who aren’t mentally well. It’s, in fact, even More important for
those who claim advocacy to pick up this burden because the sick can’t heal the sick. This is an “all of us” issue, and true advocacy is as simple as respecting your own identity as much as you respect anyone else’s, and vice-versa.
