1. .👇 This. The 6000 Brits in Luxembourg are having their lives overturned by Brexit - and that’s even before you factor in no deal.
2. In a tiny country like Luxembourg, crossing the border for work and family is as normal as popping out to buy bread. Theresa May refused to push for it in the withdrawal agreement because she was more interested in cutting the rights of @the3million
3. So even with a deal, Brexit is going to hurt many people’s livelihoods.
4. Then there’s the fact that many Brits in Luxembourg are married to someone from another EU country. Thanks to Theresa May and Priti Patel they now don’t know whether they will be able to go back to the UK as a family because of new minimum income requirements.
5. So many people- most of them not wealthy despite the expat stereotype - who moved to and stayed in Luxembourg for love and work may not be able to come back to the UK to care for elderly or sick parents in future.
6. They moved in good faith. Many grabbed all the opportunities EU membership offered them to help build self reliant lives and careers.
7. Then, in 2016, 60% of British people on the continent were denied a vote over their direct future. A vote, the result of which, would damage their ability to be together as a family, or to make a living.
8. So yes, people are more than a bit peeved. Not least because Boris Johnson is on the record in 2016 as saying the Vienna Convention would protect @BritishInEurope - including @BritsLux - after Brexit.
9. So this is more than a pro EU protest - it’s more of a ‘pro my life, you don’t get to mess with my family as a political football you cavalier cynical charlatan’ kind of protest.

And it is deeply personal. And it also doesn’t fit on the side of a bus.

10. Coda: apparently @Nigel_Farage thinks the Brits were ‘shipped over’ to Luxembourg. Can you help disabuse him of this idea by retweeting this thread far and wide?
@Nigel_Farage 11. Coda 2: for more info about the sorry crock that comprises the citizens’ rights component of Brexit, please see this thread:
@Nigel_Farage 12. Coda 3: massive shout out to @BritsLux for organising and delivering this. Brexit sucks. So does the PM. But the network effect of bringing us all together in friendship and support has been extraordinary. 👊🏻🤘🏻🙏🏻
@Nigel_Farage @BritsLux 13. Coda 4: a source at @BritsLux says @Nigel_Farage is welcome to ship himself over to Luxembourg and he can experience the same welcome as the PM. 👊🏻
