We are "deprogramming" them.
Americans have been PROGRAMMED to believe a bunch of complex distortions of reality by hearing these things all their lives.
A common one:
I'm saying that's a PURPOSEFUL MISTRANSLATION of what is going on in that passage (like so many mainstream Biblical "understandings").
Who believes that Jesus would MANDATE poverty and suffering?
You have to "deprogram" it.
Here's another one of my favorites. I lived for 11 years in a trailer park. I've been on food stamps twice in my life. I work with homeless.
Yet the reverse is CONSTANTLY touted: $1,000/mo isn't enough!
People that have never been poor or on assistance continually fail to imagine what it is like.
Stop doubling-down on this fallacy, people!
Who told you these lies?
What do they have to gain from them?
Here's an expert on cult deprogramming (a word he hates). It is worth a listen.
"Your mind is precious and only you should control it." ~ Steven Hassan
Those stories sound a lot like leaving a cult, though.
They fear @AndrewYang because his victory would ANNIHILATE so many of these lies that politicians conveniently use to control us.
𝑻𝒉𝒆𝒓𝒆'𝒔 𝒆𝒏𝒐𝒖𝒈𝒉 𝒕𝒐 𝒈𝒐 𝒂𝒓𝒐𝒖𝒏𝒅.
𝒀𝒐𝒖𝒓 𝒉𝒖𝒎𝒂𝒏𝒊𝒕𝒚 𝒉𝒂𝒔 𝒗𝒂𝒍𝒖𝒆.
"Inflation will tank the economy!"
"You can't trust poor people with money!"
"A job provides more than just money: it provides dignity!"
Some mythos is specific to the "red" or "blue" tribes in our politics, but even "half" of our nation believing such things makes it very common.
We do not own them. They are free to go.
We cannot conquer toxicity by becoming toxic, ourselves.
