#HologramTHREAD: Deprogramming Americans

#YangGang @AndrewYang #Yang2020 #ISupportYang

In 6+ months of conversation on Twitter (aka "arguments"), I've had many head-desk moments when the exact same topic comes up moments later.

After 7,000+ tweets, it occurs to me ...
We are taking this from the standpoint of "educating" people, but that's not right.

We are "deprogramming" them.

Americans have been PROGRAMMED to believe a bunch of complex distortions of reality by hearing these things all their lives.

A common one:
I'm sure Dave, Dave's parents, and Dave's ancestors all believe some version of that trope. After all, it is in the Bible! This is one of the cornerstones of the "Christian Work Ethic" that drove western society to great heights through the Industrial Revolution.

It isn't true.
I'm not calling Jesus a liar, here, before people get all "blasphemy!" on me.

I'm saying that's a PURPOSEFUL MISTRANSLATION of what is going on in that passage (like so many mainstream Biblical "understandings").

Who believes that Jesus would MANDATE poverty and suffering?
You cannot "educate" people away from this because they were indoctrinated into it.

You have to "deprogram" it.

Here's another one of my favorites. I lived for 11 years in a trailer park. I've been on food stamps twice in my life. I work with homeless.
No one, even and especially the man himself, @AndrewYang, says that $1,000/mo is everything anyone could ever need.

Yet the reverse is CONSTANTLY touted: $1,000/mo isn't enough!

People that have never been poor or on assistance continually fail to imagine what it is like.
Often, this is added to the "Trojan Horse" fallacy, which has been debunked 100 different times. Yet some folks continue to insist @AndrewYang is all about destroying the safety net for "not enough to live on."

Stop doubling-down on this fallacy, people!
Ask yourself the simple questions:

Who told you these lies?

What do they have to gain from them?

Here's an expert on cult deprogramming (a word he hates). It is worth a listen.

"Your mind is precious and only you should control it." ~ Steven Hassan

My final point is to call out various #YangGang on their OWN transformations since joining us. I will not post them, here, as those stories do not belong to me. If they want to add to this thread, that would be awesome.

Those stories sound a lot like leaving a cult, though.
Some people talked about their FEAR of leaving Bernie's movement. Fear? Social anxiety? These are not markers of a healthy movement.

Another I've heard spoke of letting go of intense hatred after leaving a white supremacy group for #YangGang.

If we truly espouse #HumanityFirst,
we have to understand that most people, through little fault of their own, have swallowed lie after lie to gain a social imprint of society.

They fear @AndrewYang because his victory would ANNIHILATE so many of these lies that politicians conveniently use to control us.
#YangGang is so wholesome (99% of the time). We have lifted away all the rationalizations and manipulations that we have heard throughout our lives to reveal simple and clear truth:

𝑻𝒉𝒆𝒓𝒆'𝒔 𝒆𝒏𝒐𝒖𝒈𝒉 𝒕𝒐 𝒈𝒐 𝒂𝒓𝒐𝒖𝒏𝒅.

𝒀𝒐𝒖𝒓 𝒉𝒖𝒎𝒂𝒏𝒊𝒕𝒚 𝒉𝒂𝒔 𝒗𝒂𝒍𝒖𝒆.
In light of this, it is sometimes comical to me that people want to get "in the way" with their elaborate plans and prophecies of doom.

"Inflation will tank the economy!"

"You can't trust poor people with money!"

"A job provides more than just money: it provides dignity!"
The reason we hear the same arguments repeated is that our society provides indoctrination to all the same myths to every member.

Some mythos is specific to the "red" or "blue" tribes in our politics, but even "half" of our nation believing such things makes it very common.
And so I am here to urge PATIENCE and #HumanityFirst, even in this desert of patience that is Twitter.

The days ahead will be nastier (I say with no small regret).

Let us continue to live up to @franklinleonard's praise of us:
P.S. This also means that if someone LEAVES the #YangGang, let them go. Do not pick fights. Do not call them names. That way lies the building of another "political cult."

We do not own them. They are free to go.

We cannot conquer toxicity by becoming toxic, ourselves.
