Had a chance to join our friends with @Earthworks over this last weekend in exposing oil and gas industry's toxic air pollution using infrared cameras.

We checked out #fracking facilities along #Colorado's Front Range, where industry's pollution fueling region's smog pollution,
In case you didn't know, @Earthworks has an AMAZING campaign to help expose oil and gas industry's toxic air pollution.

Problem is pollution invisible to the naked eye. Using infrared technology, they're exposing what these emissions truly look like,

Using oil and gas industry's own technology and own methods, they've exposed toxic air pollution at hundreds of facilities in U.S. and even internationally.

They have a trove of footage available on their @YouTube site,

And just last Saturday, @AOC came out to #Colorado to join @RepJoeNeguse to see @Earthworks work firsthand in town of Broomfield.

At drilling rig site, they saw for themselves how industry is literally gassing communities,

.@WildEarthGuard's @JeremyJNichols1 and @RebeccaJFischer joined @Earthworks' @eddy_nathalie and Pete Dronkers on Sunday for a field trip.

First stop, a gas processing plant that has had horrible pollution in past.
While today wasn't bad, facility has horrid track record of gas releases.
Our friends with @Earthworks gave us a chance to see for ourselves.

Here's @WildEarthGuard's @RebeccaJFischer taking a look at emissions from another natural gas compressor station/processing plant.
This pollution was so obvious with the infrared camera, which is specially calibrated to detect oil and gas industry hydrocarbons.

This isn't water vapor or heat, this is bona fide #fracking industry air pollution.
As we learned, these toxic emissions are often allowed by regulators because regulators don't even know about them.

What we saw is what regulators usually never see, the true concentration and extent of harmful pollution from oil and gas production facilities.
Along #Colorado's Front Range, these toxic emission often impact nearby homes and communities.

Even though @GovofCO signed legislation to ensure protection of health and environment from oil and gas industry air pollution, this pollution is still largely unregulated.
There are more than 20,000 active oil and gas wells along #Colorado's Front Range.

Each of these wells fuels the region's toxic air pollution.

It's a mess, public health nightmare.

It's why state regulators have described emissions as "not acceptable."

It's why #Colorado Front Range region is failing to meet federal health standards for ground-level ozone, the key ingredient of smog.

Problem so bad even @GovofCO has asked for federal sanctions to give state tools to clamp down on emissions,

When we were out with @Earthworks, we came across a drilling site that seemed innocuous to the naked eye.

Yet with the infrared camera, they saw 200 foot-tall plumes of air pollution.
These were two rigs operating on a Great Western oil and gas site near the community of Milliken, #Colorado.
The pollution was so bad we could smell it. It was overpowering.

And it was completely unregulated.
We couldn't see anything with naked eyes. But with infrared camera we could see emissions billowing out from rig site.

When you see this, you start to understand why oil and gas industry is root of #Colorado Front Range/#Denver Metro Area smog problem,
We know oil and gas industry pollutes like mad along #Colorado's Front Range. Here the emissions are so bad, you can see them.

But @Earthworks infrared videos really help expose the true extent of #fracking industry's pollution.
.@Earthworks making abundantly clear that we need to clamp down on oil and gas industry air pollution in #Colorado.

They're doing amazing work exposing #fracking emissions. Huge thanks to @eddy_nathalie, Pete Dronkers for taking @WildEarthGuard out on impactful field trip!
