yoonmin ch au — baby fever

yoongi’s older brother asks yoongi and jimin to babysit his daughter during the weekend. and with babysitting together for the first time ever, a series of realizations about their family and their relationship arise between the couple.

“Yup, he’s going to bring her early in the morning and will pick her up around five or six when he’s free.”

“Ah! I love Yena!” Jimin squeals. “She’s so cute,” he smiles endeared. Yoongi nods, his niece is very cute. “But isn’t she too young? Is it okay for us to look after her?”

“You know Geumjae doesn’t know much people in Seoul, and he’s all alone with her," Yoongi starts, "I think that even if he knows we’re not experienced with babies, he trusts us enough to watch over her.”

Jimin nods slowly. He looks a little worried but it's quickly gone.

Jimin looks happy, “we should do something for her, Yoon!”

“What do you have in mind?” Yoongi is tired because it’s early, he hugs Jimin so the younger doesn’t leave the bed even if they have to eventually.

“I want her to have the most fun ever those two days!” Jimin exclaims.

“Jimin ah… she’s like one year old, she won’t remember anything, even if it is her most fun weekend.”

“Yoongi!” Jimin whines though. “Oh God, we have to make sure the apartment is fit for her!”

“What do you mean by that, love?” Yoongi yawns but Jimin doesn’t care to answer.

When Yoongi stretches Jimin manages to escape his hold. Yoongi groans once the younger leaves their room and Holly starts barking, begging for food early in the morning. He doesn't want the day to start.

“Morning, sunshine,” Jimin greets their dog better than he greets Yoongi.

Jimin is suddenly shouting all over the apartment “our house is not child proofed at all, Yoongi!”

Yoongi is endeared. He stands up and follows Jimin, who is already making breakfast. Yoongi flops down on the couch and Holly tries to jumps on him so Yoongi lifts him to his chest

“It’s Holly proofed though,” he raises his voice so Jimin hears him from inside the kitchen. Holly barks at his name, Yoongi hisses at him.

It’s quiet for a while so Yoongi plays with Holly's ears and hears the coffee machine running and the blender with Jimin's protein shake-

“Oh my god Yoongi,” Jimin screeches and Yoongi twists around in the couch to see his head appears behind the kitchen entrance. Holly barks at the sight of only Jimin's head. “What if she finds our toys or something like that?”

“Jimin, what the fuck”

“I’m really worried, hyung!"

Jimin makes sure their apartment is baby proof.

Yoongi only shakes his head as he watches his boyfriend hide knives and matches, as if a one year old could climb the kitchen counter. He helps him move the coffee table though. He's also excited about babysitting with Jimin.

Jimin is really excited when Yoongi’s brother knocks on the door on Saturday morning. He walks out of the kitchen with Holly on tow and they both wait for Yoongi to open the door, looking at him expectantly. Yoongi smiles at the adorable image before opening the door.

Geumjae looks tired while he carries his baby. Yena looks sleepy but that's because it’s too early for her. “Hyung,” Yoongi greets his older brother and tries taking the baby.

“Hey Jimin,” Geumjae greets Jimin quickly when he sees him. Jimin waves at him with a wide smile.

“Here’s everything you need,” Yoongi's brother is quickly back in business. Yoongi feels like Yena is moving to his apartment with all the things his brother is giving him and how big the bag is.

“We’re going to take good care of her, don’t worry,” Yoongi assures him.

Geumjae scoffs and smiles teasingly at Yoongi. “I only asked you to take care of her because I trust Jimin, he teaches kids, right? I don’t trust you.”

“Wow thank you,” Yoongi squints his eyes to him, but smiles at his brother nonetheless. “Yena likes me better either way.”

Geumjae scowls. Before his brother can retort Yoongi is whispering to her, “say bye to your father, Yena.”

Geumjae hugs her tightly at the moment, mumbling about how bad uncle Yoongi is. She giggles lightly even if sleepy and presses her tiny face against her father’s neck.

“Be a good girl and take care of uncle Yoongi and uncle Jimin,” he whispers. "Of uncle Jimin mostly." Yoongi thinks the image is endearing even if his brother is trash talking him. Yena seems to understand, or at least can identify her father being serious and nods eagerly.

Yoongi receives her on his arms, she’s so sleepy she doesn’t notice the exchange.

Once Geumjae is gone Jimin walks up to Yoongi and lowers a little to bop Yena’s nose. “Hi princess,” he greets and then turns to Yoongi. “Is everything okay between you and your brother?” he asks.

“The fact that he’s willing to let Yena with us means he’s already getting over our relationship. And he was polite to you, nice even. He was nice, wasn’t he?”

Jimin hums. “Getting over our relationship is the same thing as accepting it?”

Yoongi sighs. “They’ll get there.”

“Okay, what are we doing to do with this pretty girl?” He changes the topic quickly because he knows Jimin won’t press it, the younger knows family is a sensitive topic for Yoongi. And Jimin doesn't ask more, he only follows after Yoongi.

“I think she wants to sleep, Yoonie.”

Yena is indeed falling asleep on Yoongi’s chest. “Look Yoonie, she’s tired, so cute.” Jimin coos when he stands in front of Yoongi, leaning down a little to look at her

“I’m tired too,” Yoongi deadpans to get Jimin's attention as well

“Yeah, you’re not as cute as her.” He tried

They take her to their room and put some pillows around her just in case she moves while sleeping. Jimin stays in the bed next to her either way, as Yoongi sits on the floor trying to understand what's everything his brother packed for Yena. She calmly naps for almost an hour.

When Yena wakes up, it's clear how she slowly starts to notice her dad isn’t here and then after a moment, she notices that she’s in another house. So she obviously, as soon as she squirms a little starts to cry.

Yoongi and Jimin look at each other across the room and panic.

Yena is crying loudly and her little face is red. Holly is barking at the loud sound, probably startled. “Ah Jimin ah, you take care of her! I’ll make Holly quiet!”

Jimin looks confused too. “No! She’s your niece! You get her to stop! Why do you get the easy task? I want Holly”

Yoongi moves forward to carry her but quickly hands her to Jimin who has no option but to receive the baby in his arms and cradle her against his chest. “You should be good at this, you’re a teacher,” Yoongi explains to a frowning Jimin. "Geumjae trusted you because of that."

Yena won’t stop crying even if Jimin is trying this best to calm her down. “You know I work with kids a lot older than her Yoon,” Jimin squint his eyes when he talks, “most of my students are older than six, she’s a baby!” Jimin hisses lowly as to not make Yena more anxious,

“Children are children,” Yoongi reasons.

“Yoongi,” Jimin scolds like he does when Yoongi is being ridiculous.

“Do something baby, I don’t want her crying, she’s so red,” Yoongi panics and Jimin sighs, after a moment he nods and walks out of the room. Yoongi follows after him.

Jimin starts walking around the apartment, voice soothing while he whispers, “Yena, sweetie, if we go out to the park would you calm down?”

Yena cries harder. “She can’t understand you Jimin, she’s only one year old. And we can’t even take her out if she’s crying like that.”

“You take care then!” Jimin huffs. Yoongi is hesitant to walk closer but Jimin pouts at him after his hiss doesn't work. Yoongi thinks he’s watching two babies in front of him.

He shakes his head and moves to receive her in his arms. “Hey pretty girl, it’s Uncle Yoongi, hi.”

Yoongi thinks of ways he has made her laugh in the past when he visited his brother and he remembers something Geumjae did a lot. He lifts her up highly and then down to his chest in a fast motion three times to make her giggle, the stunt has her sobs halting for a second.

It seems she calms down in Yoongi’s arms, recognizing him. Maybe it's because he looks like her father or because she remembers him from Yoongi's visits. It seems she wants to laugh once she looks at Yoongi's eyes but then she scrunches her nose and keeps crying.

Ah, so it’s not only the fact that she misses her father and that she isn’t home. It must be something else. Yoongi wonders if she’s hungry or maybe she’s used to a toy when she sleeps, he really doesn't know what to do and Jimin looks clueless too. He brings her closer to him.

But after the movement, Yoongi realizes what is it.“It’s her diaper,” he deadpans. Jimin goes quiet, the words getting to him. “Hyung warned me about this.”

“He did?” Jimin asks slowly.

Yoongi nods. “Got all the supplies on the bag for it.” Jimin nods even slower this time.

Yoongi shouldn’t be surprised they are fighting over who is going to change her diaper. “You do it, Jimin, please” Yoongi pleads. “Baby, I will do anything you want, I’ll wash the dishes everyday next week."

“No, Yoongi. She’s your niece! Your responsability!” Jimin argues.

“We agreed to take care of her together,” Yoongi starts, “as a couple,” he specifies after Jimin takes a step back. “This was part of our plan.”

Jimin looks up at him. And Yoongi knows he’s using those couply words that make Jimin all warm on the inside. The younger sighs.

“Yoongi I have never in my life changed diapers,” Jimin admits. “You know that.”

“Me neither! Jimin! Me neither!” Yoongi admits. That won’t change anything, they have to do it either way.

Jimin knows they have to do it, so he only stares at his boyfriend in fear. “Yoongi...”

Yoongi always loses his arguments with Jimin so before the younger can even pull a pout and those puppy eyes Yoongi always falls victim to, he barks, “you’re the older brother in your family, your instinct is to care for people”

Jimin doesn’t buy it. “You’re her uncle , Yoongi!”

After a long silence, Jimin huffs and pulls out his phone. “What are you doing?” Yoongi wonders.

Jimin searches for any video on Naver on how to do it properly. He chooses the shortest one because Yena won’t stop sniffling and they have to change her diaper as soon as possible.

They both look at it with frowns on their faces. Yoongi squints at the video, while carrying Yena who is really uncomfortable.

“Okay, it’s not that hard,” Jimin decides after one minute. But Yoongi is afraid. “I’ll help you. It's easy Yoon! We got this," but he sounds worried.

“Okay, let’s do it then,” Yoongi agrees. It takes them some minutes to set everything up in the bed but they think they're good. Once she’s settled on the bed, sobbing while Jimin is trying to distract her with a toy he retrieved from the bag her father prepared, Yoongi panics.

“I can’t do it,” Yoongi keeps mumbling while he does it. “I really can’t do it”

“Yoongi! Get to it! I’m distracting her!” Jimin whines

“I’m so sad," Yoongi says while searching for the wipes. Jimin is looking at him worried, at least with his boyfriend on his side he can do it.

He gets to it eventually. When she has calmed down, Yoongi coos at her and congratulates her for being a good girl. He lifts her up to his face, making her giggle. Jimin sighs though. “I need a break.”

“That was fun,” Yoongi tries to cheer Jimin up.

“Very fun,” Jimin repeats.

“Jiminie is making food for us, how lucky are we, Yena?” Yoongi talks to her in whispers but Yena doesn’t pay much attention. Yoongi has her pressed against his chest like he had when she just arrived home but now they’re sitting on the couch and Yoongi is playing with her.

She laughs at the silly voices he makes as he talks to her though, and wraps her small fingers around Yoongi’s pointer to keep him in place when he moves. “Hey Jiminie, look how tiny her hands are,” Yoongi says loudly to get his boyfriend to walk out of the kitchen. “Jiminie!”

He focuses on how cute her little hand looks around his finger and only when he hears the younger walking closer and stopping he turns to see him. He finds Jimin frozen some steps away from them and blushing madly. “Baby what happened?”

Jimin is red, shaking his head, “nothing!”

“I said look at her tiny hands.” Yoongi lifts his pointer finger and shows to Jimin how her whole hand wraps around it. Yena seems to be paying attention. Jimin coos loudly and sits next to them in the couch.

“She’s so small, Yoon!”

“She has baby hands like you,” Yoongi teases.

It earns him a smack on the arm, but then a small peck on the lips and at last, his favorite bright smile.

“Her food is ready by the way,” Jimin mumbles. “Yours too if you want to eat right now, big baby,” Jimin teases while scrunches his face at Yoongi.

Yoongi can’t help but smile at that. “Okay, do you want to feed her?”

“No, that’s your risponsability.”

“Fine,” Yoongi pouts.

Having her eat isn’t as hard as the rest they’ve done all day.

Jimin is looking at him as he does though and even comes to Yoongi’s rescue at some point. Yoongi likes it, in all the years he’s dated Jimin, he always finds something new about the younger to be endeared about.

At the end of the day, he feels again, that surge of love he feels for the younger when he sees Jimin carrying her, trying to get her to sleep after they watched a movie Geumjae told them she loves and after they played on the floor of the living room with some blocks she chose.

Holly is tired already at least, so he isn't following Jimin around, and Yoongi is tired too from all the playing in the afternoon, he’s lounging on the couch watching Jimin pace around the room with the baby on his arms. Yena is tired too so she easily starts to fall asleep.

For some reason, Yoongi’s heart is racing faster and he can’t bring himself to be at ease. He focuses on Jimin’s soft lullaby, the way he gently holds Yena on his arms. He feels somehow, similar to when Jimin says something cute or when Jimin flirts with him but it's different.

It's different because right now Jimin isn't singing the lullaby for him, he's doing it to Yena, and it's the fact that his voice fills the room and that he has the baby on his arms that make Yoongi feel warm, and that make his cheeks burn and he really loves Jimin, he's fucked.

He's not dumb, he knows what it means to feel the way he does when seeing Jimin with a baby. He knows very well. Yoongi closes his eyes and lets Jimin's soft lullaby distract him from the sudden urge he has to stay in this moment for a long time, with the man in front of him.

Geumjae picks Yena up. “She behaved?” Yoongi nods. Geumjae laughs, “you look tired.”

Yoongi snorts. “It was our first time babysitting.”

“Did you enjoy it? You have to do it again tomorrow,” his brother teases but Yoongi has no issue with taking care of her with Jimin again.

He’s on their bed scrolling through his phone but he sets it down once Jimin walks inside. He’s tired from their day but he couldn’t skip his night skin care routine, that’s why he always look good. Jimin climbs on the bed and quickly throws one leg over Yoongi’s middle.

“You looked really beautiful holding her today,” Yoongi whispers when Jimin nuzzles against his neck, getting comfortable to sleep. “When you sang…”

“Yeah?” Jimin crawls closer to him to hug him properly. Yoongi likes when they sleep all tangled. “Why do you say that?”

“You did,” Yoongi assures him. “Call it cliche, but it got me all soft on the inside.”

Jimin giggles. “You should have seen you cradling her down,” Jimin confesses. “When you were in the couch and had her against your chest, and she wrapped her tiny hand around your finger.”

“It made my heart race,” Jimin explains and Yoongi understands.

“How come?” he asks nonetheless.

“I don’t know, chubs. You and babies are a bad combination for my heart,” Jimin says sincerely.

“That’s cute,” Yoongi smiles shyly and kisses Jimin before turning off the lamp.

Jimin wakes up because the sun filters through the curtains and he feels the bed emptier. He touches his left side to find that Yoongi isn’t there like he usually is. He whines a little because he doesn’t like waking up alone but it’s Sunday and Geumjae was bringing Yena over.

He walks out of their room yawning, in search of his boyfriend and he finds the man and Yena on the living room. Yena sits on Yoongi’s lap, she’s playing with Yoongi’s iPad and he’s showing her something, she is giggling loudly.

Jimin thinks he could wake up to this everyday.

Holly is still sleeping on the floor but he startles when Jimin speaks. Jimin is sleepy too, it's really early but Yoongi is carrying his niece already. “Geumjae got here earlier?” he asks from the door of their room

“Good morning gorgeous.” Yoongi doesn’t reply to the question.

Jimin walks to the couch and flops next to Yoongi. He gives him a quick peck as greeting. He waves at Yena who cutely tries to lean over and stop Jimin's hand. Holly barks at being ignored but after a moment he calms down.

“You’re not wearing socks, Jimin,” Yoongi complains.

Jimin pouts, Yoongi always nags him about it because he can get sick or he can step on something but Jimin doesn’t like wearing socks at all. Yoongi notices he’s about to whine, so he only sighs, “Why don’t you watch her for a moment and I make breakfast for you?” Yoongi offers.

“You’re a wonder,” Jimin whispers before kissing him

"Yes I know," Yoongi deadpans. Jimin has to roll his eyes. He crawls closer to Yena, deciding not to bicker with his boyfriend when there's such a cute baby that can be getting his attention instead.

"The best uncle is here!"

He catches Yoongi shaking his head as he walks to the kitchen, so Jimin considers his teasing a win. He lifts Yena so she sits on his lap now. Holly follows Yoongi into the kitchen but the elder must have told him to go because the dog comes running towards Jimin at some point.

“Hey, sunshine,” Jimin greets him. Holly tries to jump on the couch but he's too small, if he would put some effort to it he could jump but he's lazy and wants Jimin to carry him. “You can’t climb here, the baby is here.” Holly barks at him. “What? do you want to play with her?”

Jimin hums loudly, thinking about it. “Do you want to play with Holly, Yena?” He guesses she understands judging by the repeated “Te’s” she says, which Jimin guesses are “yes”, and how she leans towards the dog. Jimin ends up sitting on the floor and settles her between his legs

He plays with Yena and Holly for a long moment.

She tries to stand up by herself once Holly starts running in circles around them and she seems to want to catch him. “Ah Yena! your legs are so little,” Jimin coos loudly. She tries to walk but ends up stumbling on top of Jimin.

Jimin laughs loudly while hugging her. “Hey, you basically got yourself up on your own Yena!” he cheers.

Yoongi sits next to him slowly. “Hey, your tea is on the table.”

“Yoongi, look at her!” Jimin coos instead, ignoring him but he just can’t look away from her. She's so cute.

His boyfriend hums and he leans over to tickle Yena. Yoongi is really close to him and Jimin doesn’t want him to move. Ah, he really loves it here, with Holly and Yoongi, and he can imagine a baby that maybe won’t be with them only for a weekend. He quickly shakes his head.

“Hey, Yena wanna play?” Yoongi talks to the baby. She sits between them and looks from Yoongi to Jimin, maybe a little confused by all the attention. Yoongi stands up to bring the bag of toys his brother left them and she crawls to it to choose what game she wants to use.

They are building a tower together with some blocks that were on the bag but the higher the tower gets Yena looks less interested in it and more interested in Holly, who naps next to Yoongi once he realized they weren't going to play with him anymore. Jimin likes it here a lot.

“I think Holly is jealous we’re not giving him attention,” Yoongi notices at some point and Jimin laughs. “Wait here, I’m going to bring a camera and we can have a photoshoot with him.”

Jimin was so at ease he had forgotten he wanted pictures. “Ah! Bring my polaroid too Yoonie!”

When Yoongi comes back, he carries Yena in his arms and hands Jimin the polaroid. “Here, we’re your models.” He smiles widely and presses Yena’s small face closer to his, she laughs.

Jimin looks at them. He feels really giddy, like he had felt during his first dates with Yoongi.

The photo comes out and Jimin shakes it right away.

He looks at the polaroid and it’s just Yoongi carrying the baby but he feels something on his chest. Something that has been running on his mind since yesterday. “I want us to have one of our own,” Jimin blushes when he admits.

“Mmh?” Yoongi hums.

“A baby…” Jimin clarifies.

“You want a baby?” Jimin nods as Yoongi’s eyes widen slowly. “Jiminie, you’re talking as if a baby was a plushie,” Yoongi laughs awkwardly. Jimin pouts and it'’s quiet between the two until Yoongi gets Jimin’s seriousness.

“I want children too,” he admits. “Like, in the future. I want to have one with you,” Yoongi corrects himself. Jimin looks up at him.

“Have you ever wanted kids?” he moves closer to Yoongi. “I think we talked about this once and you said you didn’t, but it was so long ago.”

Yoongi moves so his back is pressed to the couch. “When I was dating Kaeun we would talk about having kids in the future like most couples do, I guess… We broke up, college ended, mom died, I moved here, adopted Holly… I wasn’t really thinking about having kids when I met you.”

“I know about back then, I wasn’t thinking about kids either four years ago, at all. But now, we’re older and I don’t know…we do have those fantasies about us together, like in the future, like other couples do, about living in a big house and have another dog and a kitten,”

“And you said you wanted to keep working for the magazine but by then you’ll be photographing covers! And I would have a dance school, or maybe just give particular dance classes on our huge house...” Yoongi smiles sweetly as Jimin speaks. “But we’ve never talked about… babies.”

Yoongi nods. “I don’t know, I guess those fantasies or at least talking about babies with Kaeun started because we would have sex, and then her period would be late for a day, and during that day we would be in the uncertainty of what will happen if she doesn’t get her period,”

“Sometimes we would put names to the potential baby to laugh at what we were actually afraid of.” Jimin nods. “But it’s not like we’ve had something to trigger the talk…” Yoongi explains, “well until now. Because apparently, we’re both thinking about babies.” Jimin nods eagerly.

“We’re going to have to talk about this,” Jimin decides. “I want us to talk about this, but really talk about it, Yoon.”

Yoongi nods, he looks over at Yena. “I think it fit us now, don’t you think? A baby,” Jimin nods and then they go quiet for a while. Yoongi smiles up at him.

“You know your mother would love it if we adopted a baby,” Yoongi chuckles. Yena looks at him, as if interested in what they're talking

Jimin laughs. “She would, wouldn’t she? She wouldn’t leave our apartment for the first year we have a baby,” the conversation has him blushing.

“You want to convince me like that?” Jimin laughs at Yoongi's scrunched face. "With your mother moving into our apartment."

“Please, you love her and she would be of help.” Yoongi nods at Jimin's teasing tone.

It's quiet and the Yoongi shrugs, "well, I love your family.”

“They’re your family too, you know,” Jimin whispers. "They love you." Yoongi knows, he holds Jimin's hand. “I wish I could say the same about yours.”

Yoongi shakes his head. “It’s not worth it. You're my family and that's good for me.” Jimin gets closer to him to kiss him.

“Was she good?” Geumjae wonders as soon as Jimin opens the door at the end of the day. He must tell Jimin looks tired, so he smiles gently

“The best!” Jimin says brightly. Yoongi is in the kitchen, but Geumjae doesn’t ask about him which means he’s okay with handling with Jimin.

“I’m glad,” Geumjae smiles at Jimin once he receives Yena into his arms, and Jimin hopes he and Yoongi at least have Geumjae on their side. Yena tries touching Jimin, stretching towards him, in an attempt to kiss him goodbye. “I’m sure she’s going to miss you guys,” the man says.

“You can bring her anytime! Yoongi and I will take care of her!” Jimin knows he’s always trying too hard with Yoongi’s family, but he really wants them to like him and Geumjae is way easier than Yoongi’s father.

“I’ll try,” he promises. "Thank you for looking after her."

“I miss her already,” Jimin whines while changing into pajamas. Yoongi sighs.

“Jimin it’s been three hours since she left.”

“Exactly! I’m going to be so sad tomorrow when I wake up and we won’t have to babysit her,” Jimin fake sniffs. Yoongi looks at him from the bed.

“Well, someday, you’ll wake up to our baby and you won’t have to feel whatever you’re feeling right now again. How does that sound?” Yoongi says.

Jimin feels his chest fill with warmth, he looks at Yoongi’s eyes and nods eagerly. “I love how that sounds, Yoon.”

“I love you.”

“What are our options?” Yoongi starts when Jimin climbs on the bed to kiss him. “If we decide to do it, like in the future, we need to know all of our options to make the best choice, right?” Jimin nods. He loves they’re talking about it. “Would you want to contact a woman?”

Jimin thinks about it. “I don’t know, that doesn’t seem right to me for some reason.” Yoongi squints his eyes, but doesn’t ask why.

“Then what is our other option?” Yoongi moves closer.

“Adoption?” Jimin repeats what they had discussed earlier. Yoongi had mentioned adoption.

“It’s hard to get adoption papers when the parents are not legally married and we’re gay, we can’t get legally married.” Jimin deflates at Yoongi’s words. He hates that. “One of us could apply for adoption as single parent,” Yoongi starts. But Jimin knows it’s difficult.

“If they’re difficult with adoption in general, they will be a lot more harsher on us if one of us applies as single parent.” Jimin nods. “That’s why I thought contacting a woman could be a better option but we also have to discuss if we’re okay with that,” Yoongi explains.

“It’s going to be difficult no matter what,” Yoongi decides after the long silence between the two.

But that won’t stop Jimin. “It’s okay if it’s hard, I just know I want to do it with you and I’ll do anything if you’re next to me, so we’ll find a way even if it’s complicated.”

“I want to do this with you. If it’s in five more years or if we have to go abroad or if we have to wait or fight someone.” Yoongi chuckles amused. “I don’t know Yoongi, I will do it, because I’m doing it with you.”

Yoongi kisses him quickly. “I would fight for our family too.”

“Good.” Jimin decides. “That’s good.” He searches for Yoongi’s hands to hold them against his chest.

“We’re going to get a baby, someday, in the future. But we’re going to,” Yoongi declares, and he sounds confident. It’s contagious.

“Yeah, we’re going to,” Jimin agrees.
