Story time: In college, I had a copy of “Check Your Head” that kept getting stolen at parties, easily two, three times. I kept having to rebuy this CD. It was super annoying.
I remember telling friends that assholes kept taking advantage of my hospitality and stealing CDs, specially this CD. And never once did someone say, “Are you sure they stole it? Maybe you just drunkenly lent it and are now made because they didn’t call you back.”
No, they believed me because, as shitty as it is, people stole CDs. We all knew it. It’s common. No one thought to come up with elaborate stories about how you just *thought* someone stole a CD.
Imagine how shitty it would be to deny someone had a CD stolen in that way. Now multiple that a thousand times and that’s how shitty you are when you say it to a rape victim. slate.com/news-and-polit…
