You can tell when Dan Scavino writes Trump's tweets, because while he does try to scatter some Trumpy stuff in them, such as erratic punctuation, overall, the literacy level is too high to be Trump's.
So this tweet has many markers that it's far too literate to be Trump himself. For one thing, it has two compound sentences with fairly complex structures and diverse forms of dependent clauses. Trump, who can barely read, can't really write like that.
Second, the vocabulary is much bigger than Trump's. The words "congenial" and "pertained" are beyond the very limited vocabulary of the 45th president.
With this tweet, we have more evidence that Trump didn't write it. Despite Scavino trying to dumb it down by putting "ass" in quotation marks, this tweet uses paretheticals in a grammatical (enough) way.
And again, we run into the vocabulary problem. It's possible that Trump still retains the word "pompous" — he likes insulting terms and remembers them almost as well as he remembers hyperbolic adjectives — but I'm skeptical. He'd probably prefer a simpler word.
I'm getting into the weeds on this, because I think it's important to understand that much of the tweeting that's perceived as Trump just sitting on the toilet and fuming is not that at all. Faking that is a deliberate communications strategy from the White House.
Which is not to say that I think there aren't times when Trump himself is tweeting irately and says stuff his staff wishes he wouldn't. But in this case, there's actual premeditation. That context, I think, helps elucidate what's going on.
I'll just make one more note, which I am not one of those people who thinks Trump is stupid. I mean, he's not intelligent, either. I'd say somewhat below average intelligence. But he's smart enough, for sure, to know what he's doing when he commits crimes.
Illiterate isn't the same thing as "stupid". A person, like Trump, can be bad at reading and writing and good at other things, such as bullying people, lying, and committing crimes.
