Erdogan told party officials Thursday that 109 "terrorists" have been killed so far in Operation Peace Spring — a reference to the U.S.-allied Syrian Kurdish fighters.

“He doesn’t understand the problem. He doesn’t understand the repercussions of this. Erdogan is an Islamist, not a level-headed actor.”

The Kurds had warned that a Turkish offensive against them, which began on Wednesday, would force them to turn their attention from ISIS, to self defense.

Concerns of a mass-scale ISIS prison break have grown as Turkish troops enter northeastern Syria to confront the Syrian Defence Forces.

Thousands of ISIS fighters are being held in a dozen SDF facilities.

Nearly 70,000 women and children are being held at the al Hol camp in Syria.
The U.S. military has no plans to take over these camps and, with only about 1,000 total troops inside Syria, is not prepared to do so.

About 15% of the inhabitants here are foreigners, but the international community has for months neglected the camp.

And as living conditions worsen, nostalgia for ISIS' rule is beginning to brew.

The camp's population rocketed from 9,000 to 70,000 after ISIS made its last stand in the Syrian town of Baghouz in March.

Weeks of battle led to a large outflux of displaced people, mostly the families of ISIS fighters.
US says Turkey to be responsible for captives held by SDF but analysts say it is unclear if Ankara has such capacity.

In recent months, an avalanche of articles came out warning that Al-Hol is a “ticking bomb,” a headline and quote used in two different articles.

-In recording he called for IS members to work to free detainees in jails & camps

-Donald Trump said he would let the foreign fighters loose on European borders

The report comes one week after on-the-run ISIS leader Abu Bakr Al-Baghdadi (pictured) pleaded for members of the extremist group to do all they can to free IS detainees and women held in jails and camps, in a 30 minute recording titled latest clip 'Do Deeds'
Recep Tayyip Erdoğan warns he will ‘open the gates’ if Syria assault is called an ‘occupation’

"What a disgrace,"

“Kurdish Christians (and others among the brave Kurds) have stood up for the United States and for freedom and human dignity. ... What they are now facing from Erdogan's authoritarian Turkey is horrifying beyond words."

The Turkish offensive against the U.S.-allied Syrian Democratic Forces, launched days after Trump pulled U.S. troops out of the way, opens one of the biggest new fronts in years in an eight-year-old civil war that has drawn in global powers.

Kurdish forces appeared to strike back on Thursday, when shells hit a border town in Turkey.

Both experts and US officials have indicated that the US's withdrawal of troops from this region of Syria could jeopardize the SDF's ability to guard the thousands of ISIS prisoners detained there.

The video of the alleged ISIS jailbreak emerged on the same day that Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said that "the president wants to make very clear it is imperative that Turkey not allow even a single ISIS fighter to escape."
Vladimir Putin has said the Turkish invasion into northern Syria could set free thousands of Isis fighters currently under Kurdish control and their potential escape is “a real threat for us”.
