We have a lot riding on 1909 being a quality release to baseline the entire environment on. I hope Microsoft is focusing on refinement as an absolute priority above all else. We can’t keep doing this firefighting piecemeal stuff with Win10 updates.
If there is an environment blocker with a driver or setting, Microsoft needs to step in to remediate it. There shouldn’t be a unique tool to analyze logs and decode errors. The PC ecosystem can’t suffer a hands-off approach. Many IT admins don’t have the skills being asked.
Perhaps it’s the nature of software developers, but the hands-off approach Microsoft products take to failure is hurting users. If an update fails twice, start a repair. If a component doesn’t load, reinitialize it’s state to default. We are making humans do robot jobs.
Do things not break on Microsoft’s network? Is it so well run you’ve never had Windows Update just stop working? Do you just reimage the computer? I’ve been playing the reset component dance for ten years. Literally the same commands for a decade. Why do I have to do it?
Companies shouldn’t need me. I shouldn’t have a job. This stuff should self-remediate. Maybe Microsoft developers should just come to our campus and work here. I’ll assign them the tickets and they can go get sick of things breaking for the same dumb reasons.
“Oh my Windows Update service wont start. I guess this is my life now. There’s no possible way I could do anything to solve this problem. I’ll make the user download a batch script from Linus Tech Tips.”
