Earlier, the Land Justice League held a presser demanding that the govt withdraw the Lantau Tomorrow Vision development project, which will cost HKD$5.5billion.

One member compared the govt's attempt to push through the project with the extradition bill.

Tse: "Through the pressuring efforts of lawmakers, there was a period notification of 20 days for the extradition bill. But the Lantau Tomorrow Vision project was not given any such period. It has been passed solely on the basis of a bureaucrat's decision."

"The project has been supported by pro-establishment politicians, who have suppressed citizens' voices.

The #antielab movement has laid bare the fundamental problems with our political structure. Legco symbolizes a form of structural violence."

"We asked Carrie Lam to withdraw the Lantau Tomorrow Vision project in June. But she has created societal chaos, with young people being hurt every day. She has not responded to the five demands; and neither has she replied to citizens' livelihood issues."

"Lam's administration has not learned any lessons from the issues and divisions that have arisen from the #antiELAB movement, including the inability of citizens to engage in political participation.

Lam's attempt at humility is fake; it is actually a form of tyranny."
"She held a public forum; and then soon after, she used emergency laws to establish the anti-masking ban.

Now, we are worried that in the upcoming Policy Report, Lam will use some new livelihood development agenda, in order to buy citizens' loyalty."

"Just as the extradition law amendment bill would see us give up our human rights to China, the Lantau Tomorrow Vision project will see us give up our resources to China.

The government has remained intransigent. This will only further antagonize citizens."

"On October 16, we hope to see Carrie Lam withdraw the Lantau Tomorrow Vision project.

We also urge citizens not to be deceived by Lam's alleged new housing or cash handout policies, which are designed to buy citizens' goodwill."

Yam: "This is the most expensive, most risky project to be undertaken in Hong Kong's history. The government has tried to sell the project's benefits to citizens.

But I can tell you that the project is completely unfeasible. It is a government fairytale."

"No one will be able to afford houses on this artificial island.

It will not promote entrepreneurship, because no one can live there.

It will create traffic.

Why is so much of Hong Kong's money being used to create a Tin Shui Wai on water?"

"Not only that, we also face climate change––look at how the Typhoon 10 affected us a few years ago.

It's not that we don't have choices. There is enough land. But the govt does not have the political will to repurpose land in the New Territories.

Oscar Lai: "We are concerned that the Lantau Tomorrow Vision project will become #antiELAB 2.0.

We do not want Hong Kong to experience another such traumatic blow."

Yam: "Four days after Carrie Lam announced the project, without much effort, 20,000 people showed up and marched from Victoria Park to Admiralty.

Never in the history of Hong Kong have people been excited over marching about infrastructure projects!"

"Riding on the discontent and the anger at the government over the extradition bill, we believe that sentiment will carry over to the Lantau Tomorrow.

We will witness another version of the extradition bill, which we all do not want."

I misheard – not HKD$5.5 billion, but HKD$470 billion, and an extended project may cost HKD$700 billion !!

TLDR: Lantau Tomorrow is a land reclamation project that will be extremely risky for Hong Kong's financial reserves & environment.

Critics argue it is a white elephant project designed to drain HK's coffers & increase dependency.

For avoidance of any doubt, Hongkongers want genuine democracy so that we can have a say about how our resources are distributed.

Support for the government is support for capital's monopoly over citizens' interests.
