Facebook makes all sorts of determinations about what ads can run on its platform every day. A page I help manage has run political ads (for issue advocacy) & fallen into the bizarre enforcement policies where things are not approved for some reason and you have to figure out why
Those violations aren't because the content is true/false -dozens of other factors that go into it- but FB does actively manage what it allows to run.

The important question for me WRT the new political ads policy is that it seems to conflict w/the organic misinfo policy...
FB came up with a framework called "Remove/Reduce/Inform" in 2018 in response to viral misinfo, hoaxes, fake news, and disinformation. It's actually a very solid policy. One thing it does is allow for the display of factchecks etc against viral fake content - that's "Inform".
Many "ads" on the FB platform are not unique collateral but are boosts of posts or stories. They have the little "Sponsored" icon but do look just like organic Feed posts and that's how people engage with them - including with comments and SHARES.
I just went into Ads Library, typed in "Trump", and the 2nd ad I clicked on was this one. The Page had helpfully posted an assessment of its campaign. So you can see comments & shares on an "Ad". People do engage w/Ads as they do w/News Feed posts. Look at the ones in your feed.
So my concern about this no-checking-for-ads policy is that it seems to directly conflict with the policy that the company developed for "organic" posts. And since those lines can get quite blurred on FB, I'm sincerely confused on how this will play into political misinfo checks.
This conversation is becoming a "free expression" debate but at a much more basic level I would just like an explanation about how it's internally consistent with other company policies, or how it will be applied. Ie, can posts that got an 'Inform' treatment still be boosted?
