It’s the minimum wage that did it. Business are going to cut where they can to continue making profits, not only for the corporation, but the shareholders. When the “living wage” went into effect, corporations across the country made changes: McDonald’s put in kiosks, let many
/ employees either go or cut back their hours. Taco Bell started making their meat sauce with added fillers. More lettuce & more cheese. The taco shells are smaller & thinner. Jack in the Box started making smaller buns. Their Breakfast Jack has such thin ham it rivals paper.
/ Grocery stores removed registers & cashiers to put in self-checkout stands. Everywhere you look, the results of minimum wage being raised are there. You are a contractor. You must have noticed Home Depot added self-checkout stands as well. Instead of four cashiers, 4 stands
/ are monitored by one person. In my city the Service Department for returns items was expanded, but I see fewer aides. In the flooring department, five people have been cut back to two full timers. Some were “retired.” Declining to shop at these stores will not change
/ the way they do business. They made these changes in response shareholders wanting to see higher profit margins & to the wage increase. As the saying goes, “It’s not personal. It’s business.”
