An #ELXN43 and #PPC related thread:

A lot is currently being said about #Canada "rejecting" populism, particularly by the @globeandmail & other left-leaning outlets; they want to call it a dead party.

How is a 2% party "dead" in its first election?
Let's take a look at the closest analog that we have to the #PPC in #Canada; The #GreenPartyOfCanada.

They were founded in 1983, taking 0.21% in their first federal election; 1984. On that alone the #PPC2019 result was significantly ahead of the first showing of the Greens.
Now, let's take a look at the progression of the #GreenPartyOfCanada to its first #HouseOfCommons seat.

It took them until 2008 to get their first MP in #ElizabethMay; it took them 25 years to get a seat.

Now, the #PPC didn't win a seat, so we can't compare that, however...
...we can look at another metric; the party's percentage of the overall vote.

It took the #GreenPartyOfCanada 6 elections to break the 1% threshold; their .81% to 4.32% jump between the 2000 and 2004 elections.

Being generous, let's say that it only took 5; we'll round to 1%.
The #PPC is already ahead of the #GreenPartyOfCanada in terms of opening elections and, to be fair, the Green's first 5.

This is not a dead party, nor an outright rejection; a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.

So, what does this mean? Where do we go, now?
It means that we have some planning to do.

The #PPC had a very limited timeframe in which to prepare for this election; an election against established parties who did their absolute best to shut us out at every turn.

2023 (if it takes that long) will be here soon.
So, we spend the next cycle staying on top of the political conversation in #Canada; we make sure that not a single move is made against the freedom of #Canadians by this government without fighting back against it and reminding people of what a Lib/Con gov't means.
The values of freedom, fairness, responsibility and respect aren't going anywhere, and neither is the #PPC.

You want to call this the last chapter for the #PeoplesPartyOfCanada, but we've just finished the prologue; plenty of story left to tell.
