Tohti was found guilty of inciting separatist riots that killed 150 people, and is accused of having connections to the East Turkistan Islamic Movement which is tied to Al Qaeda. For a country like China, with its history as a victim of colonialism, separatism is a major crime.
Of course, nowhere in Melissa Chan's phony indignant thread is this mentioned. The New York Times is a full-blown extension of the CIA, it's Asia beat reporters are 100% in line with CIA talking points, without exception.
If she was an honest reporter with a sense of objectivity, she would explain the history of China's stance on separatism and why it takes these matters so seriously. But no, she's a key part of the NYT anti-China propaganda outfit.
There is no "Collective Retribution" Melissa, there is a systematic and targetted anti-terror campaign in Xinjiang which is aimed at economic development and vocational training. It's the kind of de-radicalisation that sensible countries use.
Of course Melissa will never talk about the rapid economic growth in Xinjiang, the fact that Uighur language is protected in the education system, the fact that China protects and builds Mosques or the fact that Uighur population has tripled
Here, Melissa repeats the lie that "the UN" claims China is holding a million Uighurs in camps. That claim was made by one American member of an independent comission that does NOT represent the UN.
Hmmm what's that? The media conducted a massive psyop campaign using false attribution and Melissa continues to parrot this lie?
