Dr. Lin Zhan to Dr. @LisaColemanPhD: How do #nurseleaders acknowledge #implicitbias? Dr. Coleman explains we all have implicit bias. On #microaggressions: Even well-intended words can do harm. #Leaders must assess their own biases AND how they’re operationalized in their orgs.
Dr. @LisaColemanPhD gives example of how even seemingly benign personal characteristics Iike being an introvert may lead to actions that unintentionally exclude.
Dr. Lin Zhan: Asks Dr. Coleman to comment on concepts like #culturalcompetency & #culturalhumility. Dr. Coleman: This work was groundbreaking when 1st introduced, but now needs to shift. Micro-cultures *within* macro-cultures of organizations deserve study. “Culture eats people”.

Dr. Zhan: How will #DEI work evolve for next gens? @LisaColemanPhD: New gens #millenials #GenZ #alphas are very #entrepreneurial (thinking outside of the box). So what does that mean? Dramatic shifts. 28% of new employees quit jobs in 1st 12 mos. 22% never go back to discipline.

@LisaColemanPhD: Who you see as faculty makes a difference in futures you can imagine. Field of education also faces similar challenges. When a field is “feminized”, salaries get depressed. How can #policy shift pay?
Dr. @LisaColemanPhD on “diversity of thought”: #Diversity of thought comes with our backgrounds & our culture. Our thoughts are direct result of things that happen to us because of how our bodies/childhoods are situated. Can’t separate bodies from thought.
On #trans discrimination in #nursing: @LisaColemanPhD: Must acknowledge that many #trans folx experience various forms of violence, every day. We need to examine our own biases. Need to recognize spectras of #gender, multiple ways of being, all true & valid.

Dr. @LisaColemanPhD: Strategy to manage discrimination in the workplace: Create “communities of fortitude”- find your people internally who support you, & your people external to the org that allow you to simply exhale, restore yourself
Dr. @LisaColemanPhD: Must break down hierarchies in orgs like academia & healthcare systems. Not just acknowledging everyone’s value but making possibilities for awards, promotions, recognition available to everybody not just those at the “top”
