These are riot police officers, by the way. That is, officers who are trained to confront crowds, protests or riots.

On the other end, it's random residents out on a Saturday night.

#HongKongProtests
Older residents yelling at police to "fucking leave". You can see parents taking their young kids away.

Meanwhile, riot police officers keep moving forward, with no apparent purpose.

#HongKongProtests
This is daily life for Hongkongers now. You can literally go out for dinner, try to catch a ride home, and then be confronted by literal riot cops on the street.

#HongKongProtests
Police had been stop and searching random people earlier. They shoved one person to the ground and are conducting a search.

(Had to edit this picture because of the injunction against publishing photographs of police officers 🤷🏻)

#HongKongProtests
These three have been shouting abusive vitriol at protesters, calling them 'cockroaches' & 'rioters'.

They were asked to leave by the police. A gentle response to hate speech, compared to the aggressive treatment of people being stopped and searched earlier.

#HongKongProtests
Riot police officers started rushing forward, to find... ??? people in press jackets and an empty intersection.

"Return, return!"

#HongKongProtests
Now they are returning to this same intersection where they were standing previously.

There is literally no point to them being here. Literally nothing is happening.

#HongKongProtests
Police have raised the black flag and are steadying their weapons.

But it is literally just residents shouting, including about how there were no police in Yuen Long during the triad attacks on 7.21, while police besieged Prince Edward station on 8.31.

#HongKongProtests
Whoops and cheers as police leave. Residents have again managed to drive away riot police officers, at least in this one intersection, at least for the night.

And of course, it's not over – the police are out again on Tai Tong Road in Yuen Long, in response to... absolutely nothing.
