Example of “news partner” of FB/Twitter purposefully pushing a false narrative to support a politically partisan view. (Testifying in military uniform is standard practice, as is not wearing that uniform at the NSC). The claim isn’t untrue, but the insinuation is false.
The story pushes a false perception of events using individually true statements (but leaving out key context). If this is a mistake, and this is actually a journalism outlet, the author and outlet should correct it.
But this isn’t a simple mistake. It is part of a mission and strategy. And this isn’t journalism, nor was it meant to be.
This is why it’s important to distinguish between misinformation and disinformation. Disinformation works as a campaign or collection of information actions like this one, often built from individually “true” claims that function to mislead for a strategic, political purpose.
