So @StuartEizenstat recently wrote an article for @politico titled “What Haulocast Reparations Has taught me about slavery reparations”. In response, this thread will be titled “Why you should shut the F*ck up about #ADOS issues, & stay in your lane” dang, I’m already worked up
This is Issac Woodard Jr. WW2 vet who hours after being discharged from service was ripped off a bus in SC in his uniform, beaten by police with his eyes gauged out..you may ask why this is relevant to a Jewish American today speaking against cash payments of reparations to ADOS
See Issac fought for this country, a country that never loved him. Despite his ancestors being used like cattle, beaten, raped, dismembered, humiliated, stripped of every human dignity for centuries, he put on that uniform to represent this nation that his ancestors built.
Issac Woodard fought in a war where #ADOS soldiers took up arms and shed blood in part to free Jews from the horrible atrocity of the Holocaust. A black man from America, fought for your life and freedom even while he himself was not free
From WW1 through the Vietnam war there are countless documented beatings, murders and lynchings of #ADOS soldiers after returning home from war. Quite a list after WW2 alone
But these soldiers still went and fought. My ancestors put their lives on the line to pay for Jewish freedom knowing that they could come home to death simply for fighting for you....
So the absolute gull, gumption and audacity of you to believe that you have any right to utter a single word about how my people should be repaid by this country is not just disrespectful but mind-boggling and a spit in #ADOS face.
Not only did my ancestors, (in fact my own family members) put on a uniform to fight for you, but you were then able to come to this country and benefit from everything we built, you were able to meld yourself into whiteness
Not only did Jewish people receive reparations from those countries and entities that aided in the genocide but you received backing and protection from the US government to support your claim. A govevernemt and nation that my ancestors built
Reparations is not simply about slavery. It is about accrued disadvantage from Jim Crow, redlining, mass-incarceration, convict leasing. The enslavement and subjugation of my people still has not ended. In contrast to ADOS the Jewish community has flourished
Yet here we are. A Jewish man made white telling the people who built this country without being repaid that because it was “so long ago” we shouldn’t fight for these trillions that we are owed. Who are you? How dare you!
Without #ADOS there would never have been a United States that could have come to your aid in the first place. This is my country, I am the definition on American and every right that you hold here you owe to the slaves who formed the foundations of this country
On behalf of all #ADOS I not only demand an apology from the author but an immediate retraction and statement from @politico. Don’t you ever let anyone tell us how to settle our debt with America.
Imagine for a second if I wrote an article about why Jews should not have gotten reparations, why they are owed less or too much time has passed. Imagine anyone speaking about the Jewish community the way they feel they have the right to freely speak about us
Understand, I have no chill. You disrespect this movement and our claim, I will hold nothing back. Everyone who came to this country after #ADOS owes us, and you need to act like it
