Sometimes we hesitate to ask some real questions or give feedback because we want to be proper in public and not risk judgment.
So- we’re hosting a new event series at @ffvc called Real Talk- bringing together two groups of people that might benefit from some realness #openlp 1/
We’re starting with an easier one- LP’s and VC’s. Hosting a closed door dinner 11/13 for these folks to get real with each other for the sake of learning. If you have been an LP in a fund, and would like to join to share and learn, shoot me a DM. Know one? Share with them.
So many of my friends are traveling regularly, looking for short-term stay apartments/subletters.
Instead of seeing Instagram story posts all the time, I'm starting a housing swap community.
The structure to make it work👇:
-All members will be vetted by me before joining.
-Members will share their travel dates with me privately, and the city they are coming from and going to.
-I will publish a calendar without attribution showing availability in different cities.
-Members will be match made...
-With each other based on neighborhood preferences, lifestyles, and other factors.
-No money will be exchanged except in exceptional circumstances where there is excess demand in a city or one-sided swaping.
-Highest of expectations about behavior and cleanliness for guests.
Did a ton of reflection this weekend about big decisions and overthinking.
Have more to share later this week, but one of the first frameworks that helped me navigate the toughest decisions in my life years ago came from a best friend of mine.
The metaphor was about...
How two sides of a decision were akin to a house made of legos or an apple.
One of the choices in a decision is usually anchored by reasoning:
"This job could set me up for the next thing"
"They are a great match for me on paper"
I've been fascinated for years with idea of life narratives - the stories we tell ourselves about how the world Is and how we navigate life given that way of being.
Not everyone's conscious of what theirs is; interesting to explore.
My narrative is...
That life is like being in a backyard on a warm summer evening as the sun sets.
We come across serendipitous moments all the time, like lightning bugs/fireflies in the backyard.
Sometimes they might light up in front of us, and we get to take in the moment joyfully, but...
Everywhere we aren't looking, there are hundreds, thousands more, moments that could light up for us if we know when to look and take it in.
As I look back in my life at the experiences I've gone through, I can see so, so many moments where it came up:
