One of my constant irritations with the current real estate market is that $16.5 million penthouses face solid walls and have small rooms.
While lovely in their way, these are not remotely $16.5 million spaces. They're not even $2 million spaces. The bedroom faces a wall and looks right into another apartment! The dining area is a table crammed three steps next to the kitchen!
There are many reasons to dislike how New York has been overbuilt during the De Blasio administration - the hideous stick-shaped residential skyscrapers, the warrens of glass buildings crammed next to each other - but the greatest grift is the luxury spaces they built are tiny.
You would lust after a gorgeous pre-war, you'd lose your mind over a light-filled Tribeca loft or a Chelsea/Brooklyn Heights brownstone. Those are actual luxury spaces. These rabbit warrens? With the neighbors staring in and no light? Not luxury spaces!
On the other hand you have to love that real estate grifters have convinced oligarchs looking for tax shelters to live in the billionaire version of tenements
