— Secretary Ross' top adviser explicitly asking Hofeller for approval for DOJ's letter requesting a citizenship question
— Ross' adviser texting that draft letter to John Gore at DOJ, even though Gore testified he drafted the letter himself
Now, we know that Secretary Ross' top adviser asked for Hofeller's explicit blessing on language that he sent straight to DOJ.
"Dale" is Dale Oldham, Hofeller's business partner and Republican gerrymandering expert.
Left: Former top DOJ official John Gore testifying that he doesn't use his cell phone for DOJ work.
Right: Gore getting a text message w/ an entire draft of the letter requesting a citizenship question from Secretary Ross' top adviser (a draft he said *he* wrote)
1. Hofeller wanted to add a citizenship question for years because it’d be “advantageous to republicans and non-Hispanic Whites.”
2. We now know that Secretary Ross’ top adviser got Hofeller’s blessing for the very request to add the question.
