My latest Being Water, in which I try my best to explain and recap the past two weeks of #HongKongProtests. I've been trying to write this for almost two weeks but everything kept changing while I was writing the first 3-5 drafts.

I break the past two weeks down into three phases. The government escalated violence, trying to beat and arrest us into submission, starting roughly on 10/31 (Halloween).

I think the mall raids are the clearest example of how HKPF tactics changed.
They were trying to compel a new unofficial curfew with brute force on increasingly random people.

"... stay home on weekends or expect arbitrary arrest, pepper spray, or tear gas exposure. Stop what you’re doing and flee when you see Green Objects appear anywhere near you."
It was so heavy-handed that people started dying and getting shot, triggering the current 'wildfire insurgency' by Monday.

"The once clearly defined lines between ‘peacenik’ protesters and ‘frontliners’ have almost disappeared alongside marches." Things go straight to clashes.
This 'wildfire insurgency' peaked on Tuesday night with the Battle of CUHK Bridge Number 2 on Tuesday night in addition to all the 'diversions' across the city.
We entered a new fortresses & stalemate phase after HKPF was forced to retreat (i.e., CUHK students won) Tuesday night. Things could change any minute, but cops are responding to fewer things and have kept a wide distance from the Fortress Universities.
