One of the enduring mysteries of the Trump era is the pardon power of the POTUS. There are only two limits to the pardon power, and Filey, below, is correct.

@lauferlaw @File411 @LouiseMensch @911CORLEBRA777
The text itself is short, elegant and absolute. Everything can be pardoned, except in cases of impeachment and as long as it is an offense "against the United States."
The Stone case represents the biggest pardon test for Trump. Stone is a life-long friend, ally and mentor to Trump. The conduct he was convicted of, he did it for Trump. The fact that he did not flip or testify -- he did that for Trump.
If Trump does not pardon Stone, then ALL co conspirators know the gig is up, and there will be no pardons.
If Trump does pardon Stone, then that is pardon of a co-conspirator. As @lauferlaw says, a Court might reject that, as an abuse of power and obstruction of justice -- but ultimately SCOTUS would have to decide whether a court had that power under separation of power doctrine
@lauferlaw If Trump does pardon Stone, Stone no longer has the 5th amendment right not to testify. But he has already demonstrated he is willing to go to jail for Trump, so I don't see that as a big hang up for Trump. Stone would take the contempt charge.
@lauferlaw One possibility is that Trump has told Stone that he will pardon before he leaves office and Stone just has to cool his heels for a year. This is a dangerous possibility and emphasizes why we MUST win the next election.
