hate hate hate hate hate Slack's new WYSWYG editor.
It's really bad. Besides the bugs it tries to guess what you want, often getting it wrong. It interferes with the ability to input text in inexplicable ways.
Who wanted a text field that randomly decides "oh you mean italics!", then WHAM slams a whole sentence leftward by about 40 pixels? NO ONE BECAUSE THAT IS INSANE USER-HOSTILE BEHAVIOR.
Some PM, probably a boomer, thought "this markdown thing is too hard to understand"
So you want to inject a word processor into the edit box? OK, I get it. Fine, I'm sure it demos well to the CxOs who write the check and have to call their assistant for help downloading a movie.
What makes absolutely NO sense is making it mandatory.

And refusing to listen as thousands upon thousands of customers tell @SlackHQ how much they absolutely lothe this misfeature.

I worry for investors in Slack.
@SlackHQ Not because of this badly implemented rollout. Everyone makes mistakes. Everyone gets it wrong sometimes. That's just part of life.

I worry because the response shows a damaged thought process.
@SlackHQ Either they think they know better and are free to ignore their customers going forward

or they think it doesn't matter, they just need to make the CxOs happy and users will use whatever IT forces on them.

Either way that seems like a fundamental change.
@SlackHQ Always watch out for damaged thought processes. That's a reliable leading indicator.

Not that they can't keep making money... plenty of companies make money in "enterprise" software... the vast majority of it is horrible and actively user-hostile, but they do make money.
