What he's doing is driving a wedge between Muslims and non-Muslims.

It's very deliberate.

His unrelenting criticism of Islam is intended to make Muslims feel under attack and react with belligerence.
The Israeli invasion of Lebanon in 2006 is an object lesson.

Prior to the invasion, there were Lebanese who opposed Hezbollah.

After the invasion, these opponents of Hezbollah turned on a dime and called Hezbollah "Lebanon's heroes."
Everything you were told about Islam after 9/11 turns out to be untrue.

What you need to understand is the concept of "face."

It's very important in the Middle East.

Non-Muslims were demanding actions that would never happen.
The entire argument was futile.

I've been studying the Middle East very intensely since about 2012.

Here's what's happening:
The people making sweeping reforms are DENYING making such reforms.

I approve. Absolutely.

Listen to this Uber driver.

"Let's not dwell on the past. We're happy with the way things are now."

I'm all for that.

The problem is that people want some kind of public mea culpa.

It's never going to happen, because it CAN'T happen.
What you're doing is trying to impose cultural values on people who don't share them.

Why can't we look at actions?
In this video, the New York Times actually thinks that @realDonaldTrump gave a deranged order that the US military is openly disobeying.

@realDonaldTrump Nobody knows how anything works.

Military leaders don't DEBATE the president after he gives an order, and they don't bring in heavy weapons in defiance of a presidential order.

The order was KABUKI.

And the Bradley fighting vehicles are for other soldiers.
@realDonaldTrump The New York Times just gave Trump cover for transferring heavy weapons to our allies.

Instead of looking at ACTIONS, the Times looks only at WORDS.

They don't understand subterfuge.

It's because they refuse to accept that Trump is smarter than they are.
@realDonaldTrump There are things happening in the Middle East that the Imam of Peace won't tell you.

@realDonaldTrump Islam actually prohibits that kind of action, but the UAE is going ahead anyway.

After 9/11, people told me that Islam is set in concrete.

Middle Easterners are proving that statement wrong.
@realDonaldTrump But if you ASK the UAE, they'll deny all day long that what they're doing is prohibited.

All I care about are actions.
@realDonaldTrump You know what this article leaves out?

@realDonaldTrump The meeting was called by Ahmed el-Tayeb, the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar.

And the meeting included Jewish, Hindu, Sikh and Buddhist religious leaders.

THAT is such a massive change that we can't calculate the ramifications.
@realDonaldTrump What so many westerners wanted has already happened.

Everything we're seeing now are "lagging indicators."

Iran and Qatar are still state sponsors of terrorism, but that won't go on for very much longer.

The worst is over.
@realDonaldTrump What people don't understand is that the entire dynamic between the West and the Middle East had to be changed.

There was just too much historical baggage.

You can thank Trump for almost singlehandedly changing the dynamic.

That's why the Saudis welcomed him.
@realDonaldTrump Trump is a geopolitical egalitarian. He doesn't impose; he waits to be asked.

THAT ALONE was enough to change the dynamic.

We live in a totally different era from 2001. Almost nothing is the same. And all the changes are improvements.
@realDonaldTrump That's why I don't even read the Imam of Peace.

I figured him out a long time ago.

He's a very small-minded man.

The reformers changed the entire world.

We won't see the full effects for a few more years.
