As the DOJ IG report and the Durham investigations come out, be thankful that DOJ leadership like @SallyQYates and @RodRosenstein were SCRUPULOUSLY careful about following every single DOJ guidance and policy. This was no time for cutting corners.
@SallyQYates @RodRosenstein Per the IG Exec Summary, Yates, Boente and Rosenstein withheld some information from "Department officials" concerning the Page FISA application. Given time frame, this seems likely to mean Loretta Lynch was not entirely read in. @LouiseMensch @ericgarland
Loretta Lynch's meeting with Clinton on the tarmac did significant damage to the DOJ reputation for independence and impacted both the Russia and Hillary Email investigations. On balance, I'm thrilled if she was firewalled from the RU investigation. thedailybeast.com/cheats/2016/06…

Chief of Counterintelligence Bill Priestap confirmed that Pap's drunken blathering + DNR email hack = counterintelligence concern that DOJ "obligated" to investigate.
Priestap was the guy that decided not to give Trump defensive briefings for fear that he would hide the misconduct as a result. IJ concludes that was a proper discretionary call.

Further confirmation that Loretta Lynch was likely not in the loop. IG found no requirement that DOJ be briefed by the FBI before the investigations and no evidence that they did consult in advance.
Interesting: Steele had a "primary subscource" and it took 2 months for his first 2 reports to go from his FBI handler to the Crossfire Hurricane team.
BOOM: Crossfire Hurricane team was aware of, and earnestly evaluated the effects of Steele's being initially hired as a part of a political effort.
No political bias in Carter Page FISA application, despite the fact that Steele Dossier was part of the motivation to file for it.
BOOM: Crying Carter Page ADMITTED to the FBI that he had an "open checkbook" from Russians to fund a "think tank."
It's too long to clip, but IG looked very carefully at Bruce Ohr's meetings with Steele, concluded that they were not illegal, but were questionable and that he served as a conduit to Crossfire Hurricane from Steele. This was ill advised but not illegal.
Last couple of pages are pretty dry recommendations for improvement of procedures -- completely appropriate stuff for an IG report. Bottom line: Patriots win. Traitors lose.
