In normal times, no. In these times, this is the only available path. 
The reason that this must be done is this: the Senate has the "sole power" to conduct the trial once the articles are forwarded. That power is wielded by 51 votes. Republicans, under Moscow Mitch have 53 votes. If they vote together they can do ANYTHING.
Mitch has already announced that he will will use that 51 votes to coordinate with the White House and do whatever Trump asks him. Take a deep breath. Count to 10. Ask: what would Moscow Mitch do to help Trump?
Here's what MoscowMitch would do: he would call Joe Biden and Hunter Biden and have 53 Senators ask them anything. And Barr would prosecute any misstatement. It would be a circus, and Pelosi cannot allow that.
MoscowMitch would put on whatever crazy lying witnesses that Ghouliani and Parnash faked up. He would fully engage the Ghouliani's "drug deal" and turn it up to 100. That trial in the Senate could literally destroy the United States. It cannot be allowed to happen.
And if Chief Justice Roberts tried to pump the brakes, MoscowMitch would get his 53 senators to vote to override. And there would be no appeal, because the Senate has the Sole Power and no other branch of government can say boo.
So I applaud @TeamPelosi and @RepAdamSchiff and @RepJerryNadler and the other Dem leadership for thinking this carefully through, gaming it out, saving the United States, and avoiding disaster. I thank you. American thanks you. Hold the articles until there's a deal.
