The first week of January 2020:

White people insisting that Salish people went barefoot. Their evidence: old anthro/ethno docs.

And as they assert their evidence, they bash actual Native people.
Their evidence includes:
And... a series written with input from Bouchard.
More "evidence" from the Nice White Ladies of Romance who are determined to prove that Kathryn Lynn Davis's book is accurate.

If I was Kathryn Lynn Davis, I'd be telling them to stop. These Nice White Ladies are ridiculous. Hmm. Maybe I shouldn't say "ridiculous" because... A white writer's tweet, with these words: "A writer des
... the Nice White Ladies will characterize me as inviting others to scorn them.

I don't know if these particular NWL's are in @romancewriters but regardless--their rebuttals tell associations like RWA that some romance writers need a lot of help.
In my long threads as I critiqued Kathryn Lynn Davis's bk, I wondered about the source she used. The point: sources matter. If a writer is using old docs by white anthros/ethnographers, they need to know that those sources are not reliable.
The fiasco at RWA (@romancewriters) is on-going. At the center of its fiasco is diversity, inclusion, and racism.

(Note: I avoid using "racist" in my critiques because Native peoples might be POC but of greater significance is our citizenship/membership in a Native Nation.)
A person of color says "this is racist" or even "this is a problem" and white women pull out white sources (old, biased, and manipulated texts and photographs written/taken by white men) to say "no, it isn't."
For some of the photos they are offering as evidence, the people in the photos aren't Salish.

In these threads, Native ppl are saying "no..."

But more evidence is given, with certain tone.

Hence, my use of the scornful "Nice White Ladies" phrase.
The materials being offered as evidence point to a society that hasn't accepted the fact that its citizens were taught to view Whiteness as superior to all else.

That should scare everybody. White Supremacy has consequences for everyone.
Native people have been pushing back and critiquing Whiteness in many ways. Take a look at @TiffanyMidge's satire of romance novel covers: tourquoise.livejournal.com/247035.html
A shout out to @KamloopsArchaeo for trying to help LL Manning. Turns out, if I'd just spoken kindly and directly to LL Manning, she might have listened. She's thanking Joanne and has now deleted all her evidence. Sure wish I'd captured more of it! It was quite a show.
Here's another screen cap I got:
And just in case I didn't see that one in previous tweet, the image in bottom right, it was sent to me all by itself:
Other Native people replied to Manning and she'd send them Curtis and similar photos of Native people with no shoes on.
Here's a screen cap of Manning's tweet thanking @KamloopsArchaeo:
Lot of Native ppl tried to tell Manning she was wrong but she started blocking them. I think she hasn't blocked me, maybe, because if she did she wouldn't be able to see what I'm saying. That's how twitter works, right? If you block someone you can't see what they write?
She seems to have spent some of the last 48 hours or so finding similar "evidence" to prove Courtney Milan's critiques of Chinese content is wrong.

Note: the Guardian published an article that said Davis decided to edit the Chinese content in that bk.

Here's my critique of the book with Native ppl barefoot but that's just one problem. That bit where they talk about pounding their breasts with stones so the breasts won't grow... …ansinchildrensliterature.blogspot.com/2019/12/the-wh…
Ah... two of the accounts that have been sending me what they think is proof that Native ppl went barefoot are the same person. In screen cap below, the account on the right deleted all those images. The one on the left, no.
