In my earliest thread days I started Scalia's insane conflicts of interest; wacked out hunter clubs and crazy death. It was one of my best threads and long before anyone ever read my threads.
Page 1: Scalia investigated for taking an undisclosed "honorarium" from A LITIGANT BEFORE THE COURT, Kentucky Bar Association. 
Chillingly, the matter was closed because the investigator was transferred.
UNC got it right about his unflexibility.

I am pleased to see that the FBI conducted background checks at every level including when nominated for SCOTUS. So far not too much exciting in there. He was threatened on an aol message board in 2006.
When Kav when up there was much discussion of the scope of the background investigation. Still don't know about that. Here's what they looked at for Scalia. Local LE was consulted where he was known to have spent time, as well.
Bottom Line - Scalia kept his nose pretty clean except for the unresolved honorarium noted above (and of course the crazy crap in the earlier thread). I am glad there was some vetting prior to appointment, but let's face it, we as a nation must do much better.
