IMPORTANT POINT on Chief Justice Roberts. A brief thread.
Many pundits say Chief Justice Roberts, as presiding judge, should use his power to stop R liars or limit Mitch's shenanigans. Ok fine that's great, BUT
BE CAREFUL about amplifying "CJ Roberts" is sold out to Trumpers, or democracy is lost or SCOTUS is corrupt
First off, we need faith in our democratic and law enforcement institutions. We need faith in the courts. So we should only give that up on THE STRONGEST EVIDENCE.
Russia (and the evil forces) win if we lose faith in democracy and the rule of law. The Chief Justice acting like a pitted plant at the impeachment trial IS NOT EVIDENCE OF CORRUPTION.
Judges in a regular jury trial traditionally play a limited role, with jurors making the most important determinations of fact and liability.
The CJ role in impeachment IS MUCH MORE LIMITED. The Senate has the SOLE POWER to impeach. The Senate expressed it's will by majority vote. Roberts can do NOTHING in face of majority vote.
This seems awful, but ITS WHAT THE FOUNDERS INTENDED.
So, first, DON'T BLAME CJ Roberts for Moscow Mitch or Trump's actions. Roberts only real power is to break a tie.
As long as Rs vote in a block, there won't be a tie. Blame them. Feast on that blame. Let it strengthen you. Bring it to the voting booth and stick it in their eye.
Trumpists, trolls and Russians would love to use this moment to dirty up Roberts and undermine our faith in the rule of law. DON'T HELP THEM.
We can only fix SCOTUS IF WE WIN IN NOVEMBER. Let's do that. Dirk out
