Going through an acquisition is scary; I’m sure many of you know, but there’s so much fear and uncertainty. When @wpengine acquired @heyflywheel last year, I was asked so many questions: Will Flywheel still exist? Will they change the brand? Raise prices? Let people go? (cont.)
It was my first acquisition, & it was hard to field those questions while trying to trust the process + people involved, not REALLY knowing the answer.
All I could do was hope for the best, and 6+ months later, let me tell you: it has been an *incredible* experience.
When we said it was “business as usual”, that’s exactly what it was. We spent months observing each other, asking questions, and listening. We shared lessons learned + things that worked for us, & adopted them if (& only if) they made sense for our teams and our customers.
The team at WPE approached all the things we’ve done with such respect & intentionality, & it was ultimately determined that it was best for Flywheel to operate as a division. It’s the most rewarding outcome ever, to have the opportunity to continue doing what we do best.
Two days ago, we brought back Flywheel’s Tiny plan at $15/month, effectively LOWERING prices. When does that happen!??! All as a result of very thoughtful research and a deep understanding of what agencies and freelancers need to offer for their clients.
Not a single person was let go as a result of the acquisition; in fact, both companies continue to grow (we're hiring, and we’re opening a giant new office in Omaha this summer)!
All in all, I consider myself incredibly lucky and honored to have seen an acquisition like this from the inside. And I am SO excited for the future of both our customers and employees. We like to say that “we’re on a rocket ship” and 2020 feels absolutely no different ✨
