Huddle 'round ye fans of @SenSanders @TulsiGabbard ; You despise American failure to address climate change; you hate the endless wars. I DO TOO. This thread will tell an important story.
The year is 2000 and Al Gore (D) is the D up against George W. Bush (the 2nd Bush) for POTUS. You have no doubt heard of Al Gore - VP to B. Clinton, climate change activist. Harvard educated, he still enlisted in the viet nam era army.
Al Gore was the first American politician to raise global warming - back in 1989 on NPR and in the NYT - that's when I remember first becoming aware of the risk. Gore made that his life's first mission and a central plank in his 2000 Campaign. npr.org/2015/12/28/461…
Al Gore, however, lost the election to George Bush. As President, Bush continued Reagan era economics that destroyed the middle class and drove up college costs. He gutted environmental protections. AND HE CHOSE TO START THE IRAQ AND AFGHANISTAN WARS.
Before 9/11, George Bush received a memo titled "Bin Laden determined to Strike US" and C Rice was briefed on Middle Eastern men receiving flight training in the US. They didn't do anything. cnn.com/2013/07/27/us/…
George Bush made DICK F'N CHENEY his VP and largely turned over military policy to him. After failing to even try to stop 9/11, Bush/Cheney invaded Iraq with NO PLAN and we have spent trillions as a result.
Bush wasn't that corrupt, but on every other measure he is the absolute bottom of the barrel worst POTUS in US history. A THOUSAND MILLION TIMES WORSE THAN GORE WOULD HAVE BEEN.
So what happened? Some asshole ran a third party campaign to the LEFT of Gore - saying that Gore wasn't liberal enough. Which asshole? This asshole. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ralph_Nad…
Nader's pitch in that campaign was that Gore and Bush were the same "tweedle dee and tweedle dum" as he put it. Both sell outs to corporate interests, neither good enough for Ralph Nader. Susan Sarandon was there, because of course she was.
The predictable result? Nader got just enough votes to secure Bush's victory. Does what Nader is saying now sound familiar? Is it fair from the guy that did the op that gave us George Bush?
How about this from the guy that executed the op that gave us Bush? Rich, huh?
Here's Ralph attacking Dem House members AND THEREFORE HELPING TRUMP. You do you, Ralph. Thanks for everything.
I'm not going to moralize - but there's some history. I gotta go to 50 and older basketball and try to score more than 4 points to honor the GOAT, Kobe, RIP. Dirk out.
