Back in the day, the previous (before Trump) hero of modern Republicanism said: "Government is not the solution to our problem, government is the problem." IN HIS F'N INAUGURAL ADDRESS.
If you are not a loathsome traitor, this is hard to square with Lincoln's Gettysburg Address: "that this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom—and that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth. (F Reagan)
Republicans (and now Trumpists to an even greater degree) have grown up feeding on Reagan's bitterly cynical idea: GAIN POWER IN GOVERNMENT BY CAMPAIGNING AGAINST GOVERNMENT POWER.
In that bitter world, a President can nihilistically proclaim the government which he oversees "is the problem"; a Senator can run for office bad mouthing the DOJ; Cabinet Secretaries and White House advisors can attack "regulation" - the very rule making that is exec power
Also in that bitter world, a REPUBLICAN INCUMBENT can run on the FAILURE OF GOVERNMENT. We agree "government sucks" so vote for me because the other guy wants MORE GOVERNMENT and that sucks.

For a REPUBLICAN/TRUMPIST legislator, failure is GOOD. Big money donors like gridlock, and regular people like to be mad at government. THIS IS THE WHOLE POINT OF THE FAILED IMMIGRATION SYSTEM. Everyone knows how to solve it, but Trumpists want failure.

Losing is winning if you are Trumpist because the void left by good governance will be filled BY POWER. Money, guns, organization ... AND RAW POWER IS INTERNATIONAL MOB.
With this in mind, PLAN B becomes obvious. No matter what happens, BLAME THE HONEST PARTS OF THE GOVERNMENT. Hurricanes, earthquakes, adverse legal decisions, stalled legislation, policy disputes, delays ... BLAME THE HONEST PARTS OF THE GOVERNMENT.
So this week ... you aren't happy with opening statements in impeachment, don't blame Mitch - blame Chief Judge Roberts; you aren't happy with the immigration decision - blame SCOTUS; you aren't happy with the pace of prosecutions - blame SDNY; ALL WHILE TRUMPISTS LAUGH AND BANK.
So this summer ... you weren't happy with pace of impeachment - blame House Dems and Pelosi; not happy with evil-ass Bill Barr's Mueller report -- blame Rod Rosenstein. Stawhp. Blame evil Trumpists who want you to hate YOUR government.
THIS IS OUR GOVERNMENT. When we vote, it is just a reflection of us. When we vote in mass, it is a reflection of THE BEST US. The one that loves all people; the one that believes in the American dream.
So rage tweet if you must - but aim at Mitch McConnell and Donald Trump. Raise up the Dems and patriots (including MANY former Republicans) that are fighting to bring a final end to Trumpism.
We are the government of for and by the people. We are the Calvary. Ride or die.
