Mumsnet webchats used to be pretty famous for giving politicians quite a hard time and with good reason. Many politicians were expecting a fairly easy ride, only to be met with some of the most intelligent, well-read, and politically savvy women on the internet, 1/16
women who were not afraid to ask difficult questions.
But no longer; Mumsnet now tell its forum posters that “We're finding it increasingly hard to tempt politicians onto Mumsnet because of fears they'll simply be harangued about this single issue 2/16
and shouted at for not providing the desired response - which ultimately means no one will get to ask any of these important questions to our policy makers.”
That single issue? The rights of women and girls.
Apparently asking questions on that issue 3/16
also puts off other women from asking questions about other issues. Seriously.
Those nasty feminists, not only scaring the other women, but putting off politicians who just wanted those lovely mummies to agree with them and chuckle about their choice in biscuits. 4/16
Self ID, trans ideology, and all that goes with it is THE biggest threat to the rights of woman and girls in the UK today. Of course women want to ask politicians about it. Of course they want answers.
Under the 2010 Equality Act, we have rights because of our SEX. 5/16
If anyone can 'identify' into that class, then those rights mean nothing.
All women shortlists? Men allowed on them.
Women's prisons? Men allowed in them.
Crimes? Recorded as committed by women if men say they are women.
Women's sport? Men allowed to participate. 6/16
Girls' toilets and changing rooms in school? Boys allowed in them.
Get the picture? We could add hundreds of examples to this list. Say 'I identify as' and Bob's your auntie.
Politicians must be held accountable. If they want our votes, they need to answer our questions. 7/16
They may disagree with us, in which case, fine, let's debate, but they refuse to discuss our concerns and spout mantras like 'Transwomen are women'.
Nowhere has this become more obvious that in the Labour leadership election. 8/16
So far, many of the women of Mumsnet have been disappointed by Jess Phillips, Kier Starmer, and most recently Emily Thornberry.
We will link to the threads, you can read for yourself, but what you WON'T see are a big bundle of questions that Mumsnet deleted 9/16
within seconds of them being posted.
Fortunately, some of us have screenshots. Politicians? If you think you can use the women of Mumsnet to bolster your egos and give you pats on the back, forget it. 10/16
If you are truly up to the job you will answer the questions we want to ask, not the 'curated' version you may be presented with. Are you brave enough? 11/16
Emily was asked if it was fair for women to be locked up in prison with male-bodied people. Her answer talked ONLY about transwomen. MrsSnippy's response was quickly deleted.

Here is Emily's response if you don't want to read the whole thread. 13/16
This is just one example, there were many. Here are the webchat links for Jess Phillips and Kier Starmer, who did not do any better on women's rights.

Stop patronising us; most of the ordinary women who post on the Mumsnet feminism boards know WAY more than most politicians on issues like the EqA 2010, the GRA, and safeguarding of children and vulnerable adults. Politicians could learn from us if they listened. Try it. 16/16
ScreamingBeans never did get an answer to her question either, though at least it didn't get deleted!
