A thread on a Tuesday night. Everyone who loves dogs, and animals, please share / RT.

This is — or was — a five month old puppy. He was found running stray, starving, in New York City, and turned in to the @NYCACC on February 2. They named him Letter Bank.

He was terrified, as most strays and particularly puppies are, in a kill pound. Have you been in an ACC building? It is full of the cries of scared dogs and cats, slamming doors, shouts, and the smell of pee and fear. You’d be terrified too. Yet Letter Bank’s notes were good.
You’ll see he is listed as “New Hope” only. This is the highly ironic name the ACC gives as a category for dogs they really wish to kill. You can’t adopt one of these dogs. You must pledge money so a rescue approved by the ACC can pull the dog. Thus:
Your NYC tax dollars pay to euthanize dogs, in a city meant to have its official shelter be no-kill since 2014 — and @BilldeBlasio ran on this as a campaign promise. Your tax dollars pay to kill, and your $ pledges induce rescues to save these dogs. Or not, in Letter Bank’s case.
Kind people from all over the world follow @KeithOlbermann on Twitter and help with pledges as he shared these dogs. @TomJumboGrumbo collects and adds the pledges. Rescues then receive this money when they save a dog. Some are reliable and post “freedom photos” and “pupdates.”
Some rescues, I am sorry to say, do not follow up on dogs they save, or, alas, in some cases don’t save at all. For hundreds, even thousands, in pledges since last May, I always wait for photos and updates. There won’t be any for Letter Bank, though he had plenty of pledge money.
Either the @NYCACC refused to approve a rescue for him, or none tried to save him. In any case, he was killed with a poison injection this afternoon, despite his “excellent” prognosis as a pet — if only he were fed. That he was a pitbull helped kill this puppy: NYC likes to kill
...pitbulls, and I blame this July 1987 Sports Illustrated cover story for many, many abused and killed dogs since. SI’s cover dog is even a brindle, like poor Letter Bank was.
I’m sorry you are dead, little five month old puppy Letter Bank. I’m sorry you had a shitty life in this shitty town, and that those who should have fed you and helped you to a home let you die hungry and poisoned instead. Lawyers, activists, help us make the NYC ACC no kill NOW.
...and, on a final, personal note, my days of pledging money to help save NYC dogs are done. Letter Bank was the last straw. I will fulfill my current pledges and share dogs, but all the money in the world won’t buy back this dead puppy’s life. Shame on you, @NYCACC
Shame and 💔
Yes, we already knew. May all the dogs on today’s list be safe for #ValentinesDay
